The sepak takraw event of ASIAD 20 has just drawn lots so that each national team knows their competition opportunities.
The ASIAD 20 Organizing Committee includes 3 men's events and 3 women's events. Each team is allowed to register 2 events in each competition program.
In the women's event, the Vietnamese sepak takraw team registered to participate in the 4 people and doubles events.
According to the draw, Vietnam is in Group A in the 4 women's event with Thailand, India, and the Philippines. Group B of this event includes Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos, and Japan.
We also registered to participate in the women's doubles event. The Vietnamese team was drawn into Group A with Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia. Group B has the Philippines, South Korea, India, Japan.
The Thai women's sepak takraw team, in addition to the 4-a-side event, also registered to participate in the team regu event. This event only has 4 participating teams: Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand.
Thus, we will not have to face the Thai sepak takraw team in the women's doubles event.
However, the top goal of Vietnamese sepak takraw is to defend the gold medal in the women's 4-person event.
At ASIAD 19 held in China in 2023, Vietnamese sepak takraw won a gold medal in this event when they defeated Indonesia in the final.
Recently, the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team was trained in Thailand to prepare professionally and with the best spirit towards ASIAD 20.
For the ASIAD 20 men's sepak takraw competition, the Organizing Committee will compete in 3 events including team, teammate (regu) and 4 people.
Vietnamese men's sepak takraw registered to participate in the team event and was drawn into Group B with Malaysia, Myanmar. Group A of the event has Thailand, Japan, Philippines.
The 4-man event has Group A including Myanmar, India, Laos, Vietnam and Group B including Indonesia, Singapore, Korea, and Japan.
Vietnamese sepak takraw once won a gold medal in the men's 4-man event at SEA Games 33.
In the men's team content of ASIAD 20, Group A includes Thailand, Laos, Indonesia, Korea and Group B includes Malaysia, India, Philippines, Japan.
Sepak Takraw ASIAD 20 takes place from September 20 to October 3.
