The Vietnam women's volleyball team lost 2-3 to Thailand in the final match of the first phase of the 2025 SEA V.League (August 3). The results show that we have not been able to beat the Thai team in official tournaments in the past 5 years (as of 2019).
In particular, the competition system of the SEA V.League (formerly the ASEAN Grand Prix), the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team lost to the Thai team in the matches from 2019 to the end of the first stage in Thailand this time.
Notably, we lost 1-3 to Thailand in the first leg and 0-3 in the second leg of the 2023 SEA V.League. Last year, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team lost 2-3 to Thailand in the first and third rounds of the second stage of the 2024 SEA V.League.
At the SEA Games, Vietnamese women's volleyball players have not been able to beat Thailand in all the matches. In the three most recent SEA Games finals 2019, 2022 and 2023), the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team lost to Thailand.
In the final match of the 32-2023 SEA Games women's volleyball in Cambodia, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team lost 1-3 to Thailand, but we recorded the first time we won against our opponents in a match in the previous matches at the SEA Games.
The Vietnam women's volleyball team also met the Thai team in Asian tournaments over the past 5 years. The last time the two teams met was at the 19th ASIAD (October 2023).
Here, the Vietnam team lost 0-3 to Thailand in the third-place match of women's volleyball. In addition, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team lost 1-3 to Thailand at the 2023 Asian Volleyball Championship.
We lost 0-3 to Thailand when competing in the third-place match of the 2022 Asian Women's Volleyball Cup.
In the past 5 years, Thai women's volleyball has changed head coaches twice. Coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai is the current head coach.
The Vietnam women's volleyball team also changed head coaches twice. Mr. Nguyen Tuan Kiet is the head coach of the team and previously held the above role as coach Thai Thanh Tung.
After the first phase of the 2025 SEA V.League, the 4 teams of Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia will travel to Ninh Binh (Vietnam) on August 4 to continue participating in the second phase.
Phase 2 will be played from August 8 to August 10. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet said he will learn from his students and seek opportunities to take revenge on the Thai women's team when playing at home.
