After the historic milestone at the 2026 AFC U17 Championship Finals, the Vietnam U17 team will gather again from September 20 to prepare for their first participation in the FIFA U17 World Cup finals.
According to the list selected by coach Cristiano Roland, U17 Vietnam will call up 29 players in the new gathering. The main force is still those who have participated in the journey to win tickets to the FIFA U17 World Cup 2026.
Besides the core player group, the coaching staff added 7 new faces to expand the personnel plan. The summoned players include 2 goalkeepers Nguyen Thai Son (Hanoi), Nguyen Viet Dung (PVF); defenders Tran Xuan Toan (Hanoi Police), Bui Trung Hieu (PVF), Phung Quang Danh (The Cong-Viettel); and 2 midfielders Nguyen Trong Phong (PVF) and Ta Dinh Phong (Da Nang).
The addition of personnel in many positions helps the coaching staff have more basis to review the force before entering the in-depth preparation phase for the world arena. Players will also have more time to accumulate experience, improve expertise and get acquainted with the competition requirements at the FIFA level.
According to the plan, the Vietnam U17 team will start training from September 20 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. In the process of preparation, the team is expected to have a training trip to a West Asian country before moving to Qatar, the host of the FIFA U17 World Cup 2026.
This is the first time U17 Vietnam has participated in the FIFA U17 World Cup. In the final round, the team is in Group G with U17 Mali, U17 Belgium and U17 New Zealand.
Playing in the world arena will be an opportunity for the U17 Vietnam players to rub shoulders with leading youth football backgrounds, and at the same time continue to accumulate experience for the development journey ahead.
