This year, mixed martial arts MMA is for the first time included in the official program of the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 20). However, the fighters must compete in the qualifying round to compete for an official spot to participate.
The 4th-2026 Asian Mixed Martial Arts MMA Championship taking place from May 22 to May 24 in Uzbekistan is considered by the Asian Olympic Council (OCA) and the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association as the ASIAD 20 qualifying round.
Martial artists must have achievements in the regulations in the tournament, from there they have the opportunity to win an official spot to participate in ASIAD 20. It is expected that the Vietnamese General Martial Arts Team will send athletes to participate in the tournament in Uzbekistan.
The MMA general martial arts event of ASIAD 20 will compete in official events of 60kg, 71kg (men's), 54kg (women's) for modern MMA and 65kg, 77kg (men's) and 60kg (women's) of traditional MMA. The events will be included in the competition in the ASIAD 20 Qualifying Round.
The Vietnamese mixed martial arts team competed in the 3rd Asian Championships-2026 in January this year and won a gold medal in the 49kg women's modern MMA category from martial artist Lo Thi Phung. However, this is not an event of the ASIAD 20 program.
According to the plan of the Asian General Martial Arts Association, also in Uzbekistan, the 2nd Asian Youth Championship-2026 will compete from May 18 to May 20.
