The organizers of the 2026 Asian Boxing Championship held in Mongolia are implementing regulations of the World Boxing Organization (World Boxing), officially applying gender testing to boxers participating in the women's event.
The regulations of the Organizing Committee require female athletes registering for the women's event to submit gender test results. If valid according to regulations, athletes are allowed to participate in the women's event.
World Boxing officially announced the mandatory gender test regulations for athletes participating in women's events at official tournaments held from August 2025. The 2025 World Championship (taking place in September 2025) is one of the first international tournaments to apply this regulation.
The requirement of continental and international boxing federations for gender testing of athletes participating in the women's event is to ensure fairness in competition.
The World Boxing announcement sent to member boxing Federations and Associations has fully stated the requirements for mandatory gender checks for athletes participating in the women's event.
One of the goals set out is: "The policy on gender testing requirements is to ensure safety for participating fighters and create a fair playing field for male and female fighters.
At the same time, all athletes over 18 years old who want to participate in tournaments owned or licensed by the World Boxing Organization (World Boxing) must undergo a PCR gene screening test (polymerase chain reaction) or equivalent medical functional test only once in their lifetime to determine their sex at birth and their competition conditions".
The Vietnamese boxing team registered 2 boxers Nguyen Huyen Tran and Pham Thi Quynh Anh to participate in the 2026 Asian Boxing Championship from March 30 to April 10, and also submitted gender test results for valid registration as required.
