As of 11:30 a.m. today (December 28), the domestic coffee market suddenly reversed at the end of the week, with the current purchase price fluctuating between 120,300 - 121,000 VND/kg. The average coffee purchase price in the Central Highlands provinces today is 120,900 VND/kg.
Lam Dong is still the province with the lowest coffee purchasing price in the Central Highlands, with a difference of about 600 VND/kg compared to the average price. Compared to the closing price at the end of last week, coffee prices in this region have dropped sharply by 1,200 VND/kg, reaching the market price of 120,300 VND/kg.
Purchasing at a price 500 VND/kg higher, coffee prices in Gia Lai and Dak Lak provinces today also simultaneously dropped 1,200 VND/kg, down to 120,800 VND/kg.
Notably, Dak Nong province is still ranked first among the provinces and cities with the highest coffee purchasing price in the country, despite the sharpest drop of 1,300 VND/kg, setting the mark of 121,000 VND/kg.
On the London and New York exchanges, the coffee market moved in the same direction across all terms. On the London Robusta Coffee Exchange, coffee prices were covered in red, moving away from the $5,000/ton mark. The contract for delivery in March 2025 fell nearly 2% (equivalent to $88/ton), trading at $4,953/ton. The contract for delivery in May 2025 fell less than 0.36% (equivalent to $69/ton), listed at $4,953/ton.
Similarly, the New York Arabica coffee market continued to decline. The March 2025 and May 2025 delivery periods both fell nearly 1%, currently hovering at 322.65 cents/lb and 317.60 cents/lb.
According to I&M Smith, many countries are on holiday, affecting the consumer market even though most coffee-producing countries are entering the peak harvest period.
In Yunnan province, China, Arabica is mainly grown and this year production is expected to fall to 1.2 million bags. In India and Vietnam, Arabica coffee accounts for a portion of total coffee production.
According to experts, domestic coffee prices will be at a disadvantage when international coffee prices fall. However, in the context that most coffee growers have abundant finances and coffee can be stored for a long time, Vietnamese farmers have not yet faced output pressure. In particular, from now until April 2025, Vietnam will still be the main source of coffee for the world because the coffee harvest season in other countries has not yet come.
