As of 11:30 a.m. today (January 20), the domestic coffee market has reversed sharply, decreasing by an average of VND900/kg in the first session of the week. Currently, the purchase price fluctuates between VND118,200 - VND119,000/kg. The average coffee purchase price in the Central Highlands provinces today is VND119,000/kg.
Lam Dong is still the province with the lowest coffee purchasing price in the Central Highlands, about 800 VND/kg higher than the average price. Compared to the closing price last week, coffee prices in this region have "turned around" and dropped by 1,100 VND/kg, currently hovering at 118,200 VND/kg.
Notably, the remaining 3 provinces and cities, Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Dak Nong, all listed the price at 119,000 VND/kg, down about 800-1,000 VND/kg.
In contrast to the domestic market, on the London and New York exchanges, the coffee market was covered in green in all terms. On the London Robusta coffee exchange, coffee prices remained at an upward level, reaching a peak of 5,000 USD/ton. The contract for delivery in March 2025 increased by 2.39% (equivalent to 117 USD/ton), reaching 5,006 USD/ton. In the same direction, the contract for delivery in May 2025 increased by more than 2% (equivalent to 116 USD/ton), anchored at 4,962 USD/ton.
Similarly, the New York Arabica coffee market continued its strong increase. The March 2025 and May 2025 delivery periods both increased by nearly 1%, reaching the market at 328.35 cents/lb and 324.60 cents/lb.
In the past 3 months, the global coffee market has shifted towards decreasing supply and increasing demand, leading to concerns about supply shortages, contributing to price increases. On the supply side, the less positive outlook for the 2024-2025 coffee crop in Brazil and Vietnam has caused the market to face concerns about a supply-demand deficit.
Regarding output, initial forecasts estimated a decline of 10-15%, but at this point the optimistic support is that output only decreased slightly by about 5% compared to the same period last year.
According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam's coffee exports in the fourth quarter of 2024 reached 208,000 tons, worth 1.16 billion USD; compared to the same period in 2023, it decreased by 44% in volume but increased by 4% in value.
