On January 21, Lao Dong Newspaper received a response from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong province regarding the article "The cause of the 2.1 million m3 lake water collapse has not been announced" published on January 6, 2025.
Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong province would like to thank Lao Dong Newspaper for its attention and reporting on the incident.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong province said it has completed the quality inspection of the project. Thereby, it will determine the cause of the incident and propose solutions to fix it at the Dak N’Ting reservoir project area.
However, there are still some contents that need to be clarified according to the opinions of members and experts of the Construction Incident Cause Appraisal Team.
After completing the inspection report and getting consensus, the Construction Cause Appraisal Team will complete it to report to Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee. Expected completion date is before January 31, 2025.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that the Dak N'Ting Reservoir Project was approved by the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee in 2018. The total investment is nearly 137 billion VND, with the Dak Nong Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board as the investor.
The Dak N’Ting reservoir project has a capacity of over 2.1 million m3. The project’s goal is to provide irrigation water for 680 hectares of crops and for the daily life of about 1,000 surrounding households.
In late July and early August 2023, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, a large, prolonged slide appeared on the dam surface of the Dak N'Ting reservoir.
Due to the complicated landslide situation, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province has declared a natural disaster emergency at the Dak N'Ting reservoir project.
By November 2023, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province established an investigation team (chaired by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong province) for the Dak N'Ting reservoir incident (Expertise Team 522).
Then, Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee assigned Appraisal Team 522 to conduct an appraisal of the cause of the construction incident.
Along with defining the responsibilities of relevant units and individuals, Team 522 also has the task of advising the Provincial People's Committee on solutions.
However, it was not until mid-July 2024 that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong province found a unit that agreed to participate in the inspection consultancy. To date, the cause of the construction incident has not been announced.
