Assessments and forecasts
Vietnam's pepper and spice industry is entering a new competitive phase when the potential is not only in output or cheap price but also in quality, sustainability and brand building ability. This changes the strategy in production and business from farm households, traders to purchasing units.
Meanwhile, farmers are under selling pressure as harvest and fertilizer costs are increasing, forcing many people to sell more pepper inventory. Households engaged in intercropping tend to keep coffee instead of selling it to store pepper.
Despite achieving positive results in the first months of the year, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) said that pepper and spice export activities are still facing many challenges.
