At the official meeting with General Director of the General Administration of Customs of China - Ms. Ton Mai Quan, the two sides reached a high level of consensus on many key contents. In particular, the Vietnamese side proposed that China speed up procedures to remove bottlenecks in durian exports. At the same time, the two sides agreed to coordinate to ensure smooth import and export of seaweed in the upcoming peak harvest.
A notable highlight is that the two countries have agreed to promote cooperation in the field of agricultural trade and open up markets in the coming time. Notably, both sides proposed to establish a mechanism for "green flows of agricultural products", helping to prioritize quick clearance of fresh agricultural products when entering the peak harvest season. The expansion of working hours, including weekends and outside of office hours during the crop season, is also highly agreed upon. China will also soon send a working group to inspect Vietnam's grapefruit and lemons to draft an export Protocol.
On the Vietnamese side, Minister Do Duc Duy said that he had completed the removal of all obstacles related to the export of sturgeon and animal feed for dogs and cats from China. This is a positive signal demonstrating goodwill and bilateral efforts in maintaining stable and balanced trade.
Both sides also agreed to consider signing a number of new Protocols to replace expired Protocols that are consistent with the current situation.
According to the statistics of the General Department of Customs of Vietnam, in 2024, the import and export turnover of Vietnam -China Agriculture and Forestry and Fisheries reached 17.8 billion USD (up 14.6% over the same period in 2023). In particular, the export of agriculture, forestry and fishery to the Chinese market reached US $ 13.5 billion (up 14.3% over the same period in 2023), the import was estimated at 4.3 billion USD (up 21% over the same period in 2023). Export turnover in the first 4 months of 2025 of Vietnam -China Agriculture and Forestry and Fisheries was estimated at 5.07 billion USD (up 3.7% over the same period in 2024).
