Continuously detecting violating facilities
According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Diep - Deputy Chief Inspector of Dien Bien Department of Health, one of the difficulties in managing items with many types and diverse designs is mainly small-scale business households. While to determine whether an item is fake, counterfeit or has quality assurance or not, samples must be taken for testing and assessment.
Recently (May 19), the Economic Police Department of Lai Chau Provincial Police coordinated with Market Management Team No. 02 - Provincial Market Management Department to inspect Do Thi Thuy business household in Nam Loong village, Quyet Thang ward, Lai Chau city.
Through inspection, the authorities discovered that the establishment was selling 47 boxes of Fuji-moto brand sweet potato (main butter), with a total weight of 720kg, worth about 23.4 million VND. The product packaging does not record the origin of the goods and lacks mandatory contents according to the provisions of law.
Also on May 19, in Ha Giang province, the Ha Giang Market Management Department coordinated with the Provincial Police to discover a car transporting 7 boxes of foam, inside of which were meat and animal organs, with a total weight of 450kg. The driver could not present documents proving the origin as well as quarantine papers according to regulations for the above goods.
Previously, the Dien Bien Province Interdisciplinary Inspection Team conducted a surprise inspection of 24 pharmaceutical, functional and dairy businesses, fined 8 establishments with a total amount of 29 million VND, and destroyed all goods of unknown origin.
Cleaning the market
Dien Bien province quickly established a Steering Committee headed by Mr. Le Thanh Do - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to inspect, monitor, and repel smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, etc.
According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Diep - Deputy Chief Inspector of Dien Bien Department of Health, after recent surprise inspections, the Department Inspectorate has recommended that the Provincial Steering Committee for Food Safety and Hygiene direct establishments to conduct inspections and handle small-scale business units around school gates that sell smuggled goods of unknown origin.
Mr. Diep said that checking the quality of goods, food, and pharmaceutical cosmetics in the area is difficult, because in reality, the volume of smuggled goods and goods does not originate from small businesses, but the collection of samples and funding sources for food sample testing is still limited.
According to Mr. Vu Hong Son - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Dien Bien, the Department has planned to organize a peak period to fight against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights from May 22 to June 15, 2025. The peak period will focus on inspections of organizations and individuals producing and trading fake medicine, fake milk, fake food and fake health protection foods.
