On the evening of September 9, Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn and President Simeon Beckett arrived in Hanoi, starting a state visit to Vietnam from September 9-12, 2025, at the invitation of Politburo member and President Luong Cuong and his wife.
Welcoming the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong; Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Hung Tam.
Joining the Australian Governor-General delegation Sam Mostyn and the Government Government Commission on the State visit to Vietnam were Mr. Jeff Barnes, Deputy Assistant to the Governor-General; Mr. Robert Ayling, Press Secretary; Ms. Natalie Kolobaric, Secretary of Strategy and Planning; Ms. Tiffany McCormck, Private and Ceremonial Secretary; Ms. Gillian Bird, Australian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam.
Ms. Sam Mostyn was sworn in as the 28th Governor of Australia on July 1, 2024. As a businesswoman and community leader, Ms. Mostyn is known for her outstanding contributions to the Australian community.
She has held executive and management positions in many different fields such as business, sports, climate change, art, policy and non-profit fields for a long time.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Pham Hung Tam said that the visit is of great significance, helping to affirm the determination of both countries in continuously strengthening friendship and cooperation in all fields, especially political cooperation after more than a year and a half of establishing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
For Australia, the visit demonstrates a consistent policy of attaching importance to and prioritizing the development of relations with Southeast Asia, including Vietnam.
For Vietnam, welcoming the Australian Governor-elect to contribute to the implementation of the Party and State's foreign policy, attaching importance to relations with countries in the South Pacific region, especially Australia, a country that plays an important role in the region, was previously the first Western country to establish diplomatic relations and currently has very effective and active cooperative relations with Vietnam.
The visit will certainly contribute to continuously consolidating and enhancing strategic trust between the two countries, contributing to peace, stability and development in the region. Along with that, understanding and friendship between the two countries will continue to be nurtured, the Ambassador affirmed.
