At the end of May, at the Minh Chuyen Post-War Works Museum (Tho Loc village, Minh Khai commune, Vu Thu district, Thai Binh province), writer, journalist, director Minh Chuyen was honored to receive the title of Labor Hero and Asian Record for literary and artistic composition... after his tireless contributions to the country's press, literature and art and cinema.

From the theme of war to post-war

When mentioning writer Minh Chuyen, many people must have known him through a series of famous post-war works such as "Study of making a living", "Bao dai meet again", "Dau co da thu", "Return to life", "Noi linh da orange", "Noi mat trong thanh", "Hau chien Viet"...

Born in 1948 in Thai Binh, Minh Chuyen was a student of the Faculty of Literature, Hanoi University of General Education. In 1967, he enlisted in the army and fought in the battlefield of the Southeast.

During this time, Minh Chuyen was writing about the loss and sacrifice in the war and holding a gun in the fight. His first works such as "Road to the Red slope", "After the gunshot", "The Choice of Death", " Hair" and "War photos" deeply depicted the reality of war and the sacrifice of soldiers.

After 10 years of fighting and working in the Southeast battlefield, witnessing the great sacrifice of his comrades and the return of survivors suffering from many hardships, especially those who suffered from the consequences of Agent Orange... urged Minh Chuyen to be passionate, focus on writing deeply, writing carefully, writing honestly about the post-war topic with a truly thorny and strong writing style.

The sacrifice of the people and our soldiers is great in the resistance wars against French colonialism as well as against the US to save the country in the future. I often say that even if a writer or journalist writes for a lifetime or many generations, they cannot "stand" that sacrifice. My unit alone has more than 500 people on the battlefield, now there are more than 50 people. I write just to set examples for the younger generation to learn from," said writer Minh Chuyen.

In 1976, after the South was liberated and the country was unified, writer Minh Chuyen returned to work as a reporter for Thai Binh Newspaper, and then he moved to work at Vietnam Television and the Film Studio of the Vietnam Writers' Association. In the following years, he continued to focus on writing about the topic of post-war, the pain and deep memories in the resistance war against American imperialism to save the country.

To date, Hero of Labor, senior TV director, writer, and journalist Minh Chuyen has edited and composed nearly 100 books with more than 300 works, including short stories, novels, pennings, and more than 200 documentaries about the post-war period. Among them, many of his works have won prestigious awards both domestically and internationally.

"Red address" for traditional historical education

Nearly 80 years old and over 50 years holding guns, pens, writing newspapers, composing literary and artistic works; writer, journalist, director Minh Chuyen is the owner of a huge fortune of works on the topic of war and post-war.

To help preserve and send a "historic message" to future generations to know the victims of war and educate revolutionary traditions, in 2018, with the help of the Provincial Party Committee - People's Committee of Thai Binh province, the Minh Chuyen Post-War Museum was built in the writer's hometown. The project was built on an area of 1,550m2 including a martyrs' temple, an ecological lake, a mountain range of Truong Son ( simulations) and a building preserving works.

The museum currently displays over 1,000 documents, literary and artistic works and over 200 episodes of documentaries broadcast on Vietnam Television, directed and written by writer Minh Chuyen, helping today's young generation better understand the value of peace.

Professor Nguyen Cong Nghiep, former Deputy Minister of Finance, author of the creative book "Minh Chuyen - Post-war Pen" commented: "What made Minh Chuyen famous was not only the quantity of works, but also their value and especially the way he created them. Each of his works is a masterpiece, he works diligently, explorates, works tirelessly, commits with passion and creativity on the cover, discovers and pursues it".
