Reasons for proposing to build a museum in Quang Tri
Mr. Le Minh Tuan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province, said that Quang Tri has a "lifetime museum" of revolutionary war, with more than 500 ranked relics, most of which are war relics. Places such as Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, Moc Bay Tourism Area, Doc Mieu, Khe Sanh, Hien Luong - Ben Hai... are not only historical markers, but also a testament to the aspiration for peace and unity of the Vietnamese people.
However, Quang Tri currently lacks an iconic project to systematize and vividly recreate historical values. Therefore, building a national-scale museum is an urgent requirement to recount the war, express the aspiration for peace with a humane message, arouse the love of homeland and country and contribute to the development of the tourism economy.
Therefore, Quang Tri province has proposed to build a museum on an area of about 15 hectares, located in the Northeast area of the Ben Hai River - which used to be the temporary border section dividing the country. This location is not only symbolic but also convenient for connecting tourism with neighboring relic sites.
Also according to the proposal, the main project is a 2-storey exhibition house, with a usable area of about 20,000m2, with a solid reinforced concrete structure. Inside, there are thematic exhibition areas (6,000m2), memorial areas (500m2), virtual reality experience areas (500m2), film screens (400m2) and many auxiliary items. Stories about bombs and mines, victims of orange skin, people with disabilities, or the journey to overcome the consequences of war will be vividly expressed through 3D technology, virtual reality, contributing to bringing history closer to the modern public.
In addition, the museum also has an outdoor exhibition space (2ha) to display large-scale war artifacts such as tanks, aircraft, artillery... along with a 5ha green park combined with artistic sculptures.
Museum worth 1,000 billion VND from medium-term investment capital
Mr. Le Duc Tien - Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee said that on May 30, the Standing Committee of Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee issued a unified notice of the position of building the museum "Memory of War and the desire for peace" at the northeast of Ben Hai River junction.

After unifying the location of the museum, on June 2.6, Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to urgently complete the procedures, records, advise the Provincial People's Committee to set up a project to build the National Museum "Memories of War and Peace aspirations" under the direction of the Provincial People's Committee and the guidance of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
It is known that the above museum construction project was implemented based on the conclusion of the National Assembly Chairman on July 31, 2023; announcement of the Central Party Office; the Prime Minister's direction on assigning Quang Tri province to study and build the War Relics Museum in Quang Tri province to educate the tradition of patriotism and attract tourists.
This project is oriented in the cultural development program for the period of 2025–2035 at the proposal of the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province. The total budget of VND 1,000 billion is expected from the medium -term public investment capital, the period of 2026–2030. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has agreed to advocate the feasibility study report of the National Target Program.
