At the reception, Lao Cai Provincial Party Secretary Trinh Viet Hung expressed his pleasure to welcome Mr. Randeep Sarai - Minister of International Development of Canada; Mr. Jim Nickel - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam and members of the working delegation to visit and work in Lao Cai province.
Mr. Trinh Viet Hung gave an overview of the new Lao Cai province, established on July 1, 2025 on the basis of merging the two provinces of Yen Bai and Lao Cai; clearly stated the important strategic position of the province, with the role of an international trade gateway on the Kunming - Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh economic corridor; and emphasized the province's outstanding potentials and advantages in developing mining industry, border gate economy, logistics, eco-tourism - culture...

Regarding the cooperation relationship between Lao Cai province and the Embassy and localities and partners of Canada, currently in Lao Cai province there are 6 programs and projects funded by the Government of Canada being implemented, focusing on sustainable livelihood development, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, gender equality and adapting to climate change.
Based on the priority areas in the Canada - Vietnam development cooperation policy and the province's development orientation, the Secretary of Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee respectfully requested the Minister and the Ambassador to report to the Government of Canada to continue to pay attention to supporting preferential loans for Lao Cai province to implement disaster prevention programs and projects; development of transport infrastructure; development of agriculture and rural areas adapting to climate change and green growth; projects on strengthening health and education capacity...
At the same time, introduce Canadian businesses and investors to explore opportunities and invest in Lao Cai province.

Speaking at the reception, Mr. Randeep Sarai, Minister of International Development of Canada, expressed his sympathy for the difficulties and losses of the province due to the impact of natural disasters in the recent past.
The Canadian Minister of International Development hopes that the support that Canada has implemented for Vietnam in general and Lao Cai province in particular will contribute to helping people stabilize their lives soon.
Minister Randeep Sarai also affirmed that after this visit, he will share information, connect localities and partners of Canada to study, learn and implement cooperation activities with Lao Cai province as well as connect and strengthen people-to-people diplomacy activities between the two sides.
