Ministry of Foreign Affairs updates citizen protection information in Cambodia and Indonesia

On the afternoon of May 14, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang answered some questions from the press about citizen protection.

Regarding information that Indonesia has broken up an online gambling and fraud ring, in which 125 Vietnamese people were arrested in Batam and 228 Vietnamese people in Jakarta, Ms. Pham Thu Hang said: According to information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia, the case is still being investigated and clarified by Indonesian functional agencies.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia to closely coordinate with Indonesian functional agencies to verify personal information and implement citizen protection measures.

Also at the press conference, regarding information that Cambodia arrested more than 5,000 people of various nationalities, of which more than 500 were identified as Vietnamese, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said: "According to the information we have just received, Vietnamese representative agencies in Cambodia have proactively worked with local functional agencies to find out information and request Cambodia to ensure security and safety and living conditions for Vietnamese citizens".

According to the Spokesperson, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed Vietnamese representative agencies in Cambodia to closely coordinate with local functional agencies to soon complete initial personal verification procedures and coordinate with domestic and local functional agencies to implement necessary consular procedures to soon bring citizens back home.

Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang also added that from April 1, 2026 to now, Vietnamese representative agencies in Cambodia have closely coordinated with localities and domestic functional agencies to bring back and receive nearly 200 Vietnamese citizens through various border gates.
