The exam is expected to be held after the high school graduation exam in all 3 regions of the North, Central, and South. The exam consists of 3 parts, each part 50 points, the total score is 150 points.
The exam was developed by the Military Enrollment Board - Ministry of National Defense in coordination with the Institute of Digital Training and Testing (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), in the direction of assessing the core competencies of students according to the 2018 general education program.
Part 1 is Mathematics and data processing/quantitative thinking, the test time is 80 minutes, including 50 questions (35 objective multiple-choice questions with 4 choices, 15 answer-filled questions), graded on a scale of 50.
Part 2 is Literature - Language/ Qualitative Thinking, the exam time is 55 minutes, including 50 objective multiple-choice questions with 4 options, including 25 single questions and 5 clusters of questions, graded on a scale of 50.
Part 3 is science and English, the test time is 60 minutes, including 50 questions in objective multiple-choice format with 4 choices and fill-out format, scale of 50 points.
In part 3, candidates can choose to take the science or English part. In the science part, candidates can also choose 1 of 4 combinations including: Physics and Chemistry, Chemistry and Biology, Physics and Biology, History and Geography.
Each subject in a scientific combination will have 25 questions, including simple questions and clusters of questions related to 1 context. Each subject in the natural science combination will have 1 question in the form of filling in the answer key.
The English exam section has 50 objective multiple-choice questions with 4 options, including 35 single questions and 3 clusters of questions (each cluster related to 1 context, questions on vocabulary, grammar, expression in written text, reading comprehension of text, situational questions).
Candidates will take the exam directly on computers in qualified exam rooms. Candidates' exam scores are automatically graded using competency assessment software. The exam results are displayed on the computer screen after the candidate finishes the exam or the regulated time is over.
In addition to the admission method based on competency assessment exam scores, in 2026, 3 other admission methods that have been implemented in previous years will continue to be maintained, including: Direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; Admission based on high school graduation exam scores in 2026; Admission based on competency assessment exam scores of Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.
