Ministry of Finance plans to reduce 3,342 positions in 2026

The Ministry of Finance plans to reduce a total of 3,342 positions compared to 2022. The Prime Minister also assigned a series of tasks in the process of streamlining the apparatus.

Reduce staff, reform strongly

On the afternoon of December 31, the Ministry of Finance held a conference to review the state financial and budget work in 2024 and deploy tasks for 2025.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and directed the Conference. Also attending the Conference at the Hanoi bridge were Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc; representatives of the leaders of the Party, National Assembly, Government, Government Office; and representatives of the Hanoi People's Committee.

On the side of the Ministry of Finance, there were Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang; Deputy Ministers of Finance; representatives of leaders of units under the Ministry of Finance.

Regarding the issue of organization and apparatus construction, the report of the Ministry of Finance said that in implementing and summarizing the implementation of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW dated October 25, 2017 of the 12th Party Central Committee and the conclusions of the Central Committee, the Orientation Plan for the organization and streamlining of the Government's apparatus as well as the tasks assigned by the Central Steering Committee, the Ministry of Finance has promptly implemented with the highest sense of responsibility, completing on time the tasks related to the plan for reform and streamlining the apparatus, with the spirit of "only discussing, not discussing back", "putting aside personal interests for the common good".

The Ministry of Finance has issued Decision No. 2879/QD-BTC establishing the Steering Committee for restructuring the organizational apparatus of the Ministry of Finance, headed by Minister Nguyen Van Thang.

Units in the entire Finance sector determine the highest political determination in implementation; resolutely and urgently arrange and streamline the unit's organizational apparatus, improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operations according to Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW.

The Ministry of Finance said that the unit has assigned civil servant positions to organizations and units under the Ministry in 2024 and the 2024-2026 period; of which, in 2024, 679 positions were reduced compared to 2023, and it is expected that in 2026, 3,342 positions will be reduced compared to the positions assigned in 2022, equivalent to a 5% reduction in civil servant positions compared to 2022.

Reorganize the apparatus to be lean and efficient

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that one of the key tasks of the financial sector is to continue to reorganize the apparatus, ensuring streamlining, effectiveness and efficiency.

The Prime Minister said that the financial sector needs to focus on reducing intermediaries and reducing administrative procedures.

"For example, internally, internal organizations must act early and quickly. When the Central and National Assembly, according to their authority, have agreed to merge the two ministries of Finance and the Ministry of Planning and Investment, then you should just do it" - the Prime Minister directed.

During this arrangement, the Prime Minister emphasized that it is necessary to select dedicated, responsible and capable people. We must do a good job of ideological work, encouraging sacrifice, tolerance and consensus from all relevant parties.
