On the afternoon of June 18, at the National Assembly House, Politburo Member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man received Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Jim Nickel on the occasion of his first term of office in Vietnam.
At the reception, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that Vietnam considers Canada one of the important partners; emphasized that the two countries share many common desires and interests regarding peace, stability, rule of law, diversification, multilateralization; have many potentials and strengths in the fields of energy, green growth, innovation, high technology and need to better utilize the advantages of the Comprehensive and Progressive Partnership Agreement (CPTPP) to constantly expand the scope of cooperation and bring Vietnam-Canada relations to a new height, on the basis of mutual benefit, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world.
In that spirit, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man requested Ambassador Jim Nickel to continue to promote effective and substantive cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy, science and technology, innovation, green economy, and high-quality human resource development.
Regarding legislative channel relations, the National Assembly Chairwoman thanked and welcomed Canada's support in building and perfecting Vietnam's legal system, supporting capacity building for National Assembly agencies; proposed to continue to strengthen delegation exchanges, cooperation between specialized committees, further promote the role of friendship parliamentary groups; and continue to closely coordinate at multilateral interparliamentary forums in the world and the region.
Ambassador Jim Nickel affirmed that Canada considers Vietnam a key partner in ASEAN, a bridge to help strengthen relations between Canada and ASEAN. Ambassador Jim Nickel expressed agreement with the assessments and proposals of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on good development and development potential, upgrading the framework of cooperation between the two countries in the coming time, and emphasized that in the context of a challenging international situation, Canada and Vietnam have great common interests in maintaining a peaceful, stable environment, free trade, and international order based on rules and strategic autonomy to strengthen trust, mutual development, for the benefit of each country.
The Ambassador affirmed that Canada will closely coordinate with Vietnam to strengthen substantive cooperation in building sustainable supply chains, food security, energy security, climate change response, strengthening cooperation in the legislative channel... ; closely coordinate at multilateral forums, especially within the framework of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC).
