Hue City plans to develop a plan to reorganize existing 133 commune-level administrative units into 40 new units, in order to streamline the apparatus and improve the operational efficiency of the grassroots government.
Notably, the formation of 21 new wards in the expanded city area, with many proposed names, is noteworthy.
The new wards expected after the merger in Hue City include:
Phong Dien ward - established from 3 units: Phong Thu ward and Phong My and Phong Xuan communes (Phong Dien town).
Phong Thai ward - merged from Phong An ward, Phong Hien ward and Phong Son commune.
Phong Dinh ward - merged Phong Hoa ward, Phong Binh and Phong Chuong communes.
Phong Phu ward - merged from Phong Phu ward and Phong Thanh commune.
Phong Quang ward - merged Phong Hai ward and two communes of Quang Cong and Quang Ngan (Quang Dien district).
Huong Tra ward - merged three wards: Tu Ha, Huong Van, Huong Van (Huong Tra town).
Kim Tra ward - including Huong Xuan ward, Huong Chu and Huong Toan commune.
Kim Long ward - including Long Ho, Huong Long and Kim Long wards (Phu Xuan district).
Huong An ward - merged Huong An, An Hoa and Huong So wards.
Phu Xuan Ward - includes 6 central wards: Gia Hoi, Phu Hau, Tay Loc, Thuan Loc, Thuan Hoa, Dong Ba.
Thuan An ward - formed from Thuan An ward and Phu Hai and Phu Thuan communes (Phu Vang district).
Hoa Chau Ward - including Huong Phong Ward (Thuan Hoa District), Huong Vinh Ward (Phu Xuan District) and Quang Thanh Commune (Quang Dien District).
Duong No ward - maintain the status quo.
My Thuong ward - merged Phu Thuong ward with two communes of Phu An and Phu My.
Vy Da ward - merged from Vy Da, Thuy Van and Xuan Phu wards.
Thuan Hoa Ward - established from 6 wards: Phu Hoi, Phu Nhuan, Vinh Ninh, Phuoc Duc Ward, Phuoc Vinh and Truong An.
An Cuu Ward - including An Tay, An Cuu and An Dong Wards.
Thuy Xuan Ward - formed from the wards and communes: Thuy Bieu, Thuy Xuan, Thuy Bang.
Thanh Thuy ward - merged Thuy Thanh commune and Thuy Duong ward, Thuy Phuong (Huong Thuy town).
Huong Thuy ward - including Thuy Luong, Thuy Chau wards and Thuy Tan commune.
Phu Bai ward - merges Phu Bai ward and Thuy Phu, Duong Hoa, Phu Son communes.
According to the merger and arrangement project, the whole city of Hue will reduce from 133 commune-level units (including 48 wards, 78 communes, 7 towns) to 40 units (21 wards, 19 communes). Of which, only 1 unit remains the same, the rest is arranged in the direction of merging from 2 to 6 communes/wards, a decrease of 69.92% of the current number of administrative units.
