This afternoon (September 10), at the Presidential Palace, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong met with outstanding craft villagers nationwide and leaders of the Vietnam Craft Village Association.


This is an activity demonstrating the concern of the State leaders for artisans; highly appreciating the development of Vietnamese craft villages in preserving and promoting traditional crafts in the country's socio-economic development process, contributing significantly to the preservation and promotion of the good cultural values of the Vietnamese people.

According to statistics, the country currently has 5,400 craft villages, of which 2,000 are traditional craft villages, 57 are national intangible cultural heritages of traditional handicrafts. Craft villages are creating jobs for about 11 million on-site workers, accounting for about 30% of the workforce in rural and mountainous areas.

Products from craft villages have been exported to more than 160 countries, bringing in a turnover of more than 2 billion USD per year. Many traditional craft villages continue to promote their values, contributing to improving material and spiritual life, eliminating hunger, reducing poverty, building new rural areas; becoming an attractive destination for domestic and international tourists. The economic and cultural value of craft villages is undeniable.
In the context of economic integration as well as the diversity of many cultural flows, preserving, finding ways to remove difficulties and creating new vitality for craft village heritages to continue to contribute to the sustainable development of the country is considered very important.
