On the afternoon of November 2, 2025, at the Presidential Palace, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong received US Secretary of War (Ministry of National Defense) Pete Hegseth, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.
This visit to Vietnam by the US Secretary of War is of great significance, taking place at the time the two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1995 - 2025), contributing to further promoting the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development, as well as bilateral defense cooperation between the two countries.

In recent times, Vietnam - US defense cooperation has been implemented in accordance with the direction of senior leaders of the two countries and the two Ministries of National Defense, as well as the signed documents and agreements, including the Memorandum of Understanding on promoting bilateral defense cooperation (2011) and the Update of the Vietnam - US Joint Vision on defense cooperation (2024), achieving many positive and outstanding results in various fields.

Exchanging delegations and contacts at all levels, especially at high levels; dialogue and consultation mechanisms are maintained periodically and alternately in each country; cooperation in training, peacekeeping at the United Nations, military medicine, humanitarian assistance/rescue in disasters; cooperation between the military, branches; defense industry continues to be promoted; coordination in regional multilateral mechanisms, especially the ASEAN Expanded Conference of Defense Ministers (ADMM+).

Earlier, on the same afternoon, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense welcomed and held talks with US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
