On October 29, on the occasion of attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in South Korea, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong met with US President Donald Trump and senior leaders of some APEC members.
The two leaders highly appreciated the positive results of the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in recent times, and agreed to closely coordinate to develop the bilateral relationship in depth, substantially, stably and sustainably.
President Luong Cuong congratulated the US achievements under the leadership of President Donald Trump, highly appreciated the President's role in promoting the resolution of conflicts and restoring peace in some regions of the world in recent times.
With the desire to maintain a stable and effective development momentum, President Luong Cuong suggested that the two sides soon complete the negotiations on the counterpart trade agreement in the direction of mutual benefit on the basis of the recent Joint Statement, taking into account the characteristics of Vietnam and the importance of bilateral relations, while promoting cooperation in all fields.
For his part, US President Donald Trump affirmed that he attached importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam; highly appreciated Vietnam's increasingly increasing role and position as well as Vietnam's efforts in reforming, opening up, integrating, and strongly innovating the economy; welcomed Vietnam for importing US strengths
The US leader affirmed his support for ASEAN's central role; highly appreciated Vietnam's contributions to regional and international issues.
On this occasion, President Luong Cuong sent an invitation from the Vietnamese Senior Leaders to invite President Trump and his wife to soon visit Vietnam. President Trump thanked the invitations of Vietnam's senior leaders and promised to arrange a time to visit Vietnam.
On this occasion, President Luong Cuong also had a short meeting with Prime Ministers of Canada, Thailand, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. At the meeting, the leaders highly appreciated the development of Vietnam in all aspects in recent times as well as Vietnam's increasingly high international role.
