The National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated the role of the Swiss National Assembly in supporting the organization of the 6th Conference of World Assembly Chairmen.

On July 29, in Geneva, within the framework of attending the 6th Conference of the World Parliament Chairmen and conducting bilateral activities in Switzerland, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with President of the Swiss Senate Andrea Caroni.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing friendly relations with Switzerland, the delegation's attendance at the World Assembly Chairmen's Conference in Switzerland and the bilateral meeting with the leaders of the Swiss parliament are the first high-level activity to implement the Vietnam - Switzerland Comprehensive Partnership since its establishment in January 2025 during the visit to Switzerland by Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated the role of the Swiss National Assembly in supporting the organization of the 6th Conference of World Parliament Chairmen; suggested that the two countries strengthen cooperation through the National Assembly channel, specifically increasing delegation exchanges at the professional committees, Friendship groups, Female Parliamentarians, and young Parliamentarians to exchange information and experience in legislative activities, supervision and decision-making on important issues of the country; hoping that the Swiss National Assembly would share experiences in building and perfecting the legal system as well as enhancing the role of the National Assembly in developing the country.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that Vietnam wishes to cooperate with Switzerland in the fields of financial technology, digital banking, etc.; thanked the Swiss authorities at all levels for always supporting the community of more than 10,000 people of Vietnamese origin in Switzerland to deeply integrate with their homeland, thereby actively contributing to the socio-economic situation of Switzerland and the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

President of the House of Councilors Andrea Caroni stated that Switzerland always attaches importance to strengthening the Comprehensive Partnership between Vietnam and Switzerland; highly appreciates Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements in recent times; expressed its desire and commitment to promote cooperation with Vietnam, especially through the National Assembly channel; and said that the Swiss-Vietnam friendship is still very vividly expressed through thousands of Vietnamese citizens living and working in Switzerland, contributing very positively to the relationship between the two countries.

Senate President Andrea Caroni affirmed the necessity of cooperation and experience sharing in building and perfecting the legal system to create development institutions in line with current global trends; announced that the two sides plan to restart negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Vietnam - EFTA European Free Trade Association (Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) in September 2025, hoping that Switzerland and Vietnam will soon discuss the bilateral Free Trade Agreement.
