On October 1, at the National Assembly House, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Cuban National Assembly Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernandez co-chaired the second session of the Vietnam - Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in his opening speech, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that, following the success and promoting the achievements of the first meeting of the Vietnam - Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee held in 2024 in Havana, the second session is a clear demonstration of the strong political commitment of the two countries' National Assemblies in continuously strengthening and deepening the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba.

For his part, President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez emphasized that the meeting reaffirmed Cuba's determination to respect commitments and promote necessary policies to facilitate trade and cooperation between the two countries. Cuba attaches importance to Vietnam's experience and the participation of Vietnamese enterprises in the process of updating the economic model. Currently, with 10 investment projects in Cuba, Vietnam is the largest Asian investor in Cuba, with an increasingly important and growing presence in the Mariel Development Area.
The two sides listened to representatives of the agencies of the two National Assemblies and the Ministries under the Vietnam - Cuba Subcommittee report on the cooperation situation between the two countries, propose measures and recommendations to amend and supplement policies and laws to remove difficulties and obstacles, and improve the effectiveness of cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, especially in the fields of economy, trade, investment, agriculture, healthcare and biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
The two sides exchanged opinions and shared experiences from each side on developing and perfecting policies and laws to encourage the development of enterprises, attracting foreign investment, applying technology in agricultural production, and cooperating in the health sector in accordance with the conditions and specific situations of each country; evaluating the results achieved and proposing measures to improve the effectiveness of implementing cooperation agreements signed between the two countries.

President of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man and President of the National Assembly of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez both agreed to increase consultations on law-making, facilitate the implementation of bilateral commitments, coordinate the development and completion of specific mechanisms, promote Vietnamese enterprises to expand investment in Cuba, especially promote cooperation between localities and vice versa to exchange experiences and support each other in socio-economic development.
The two sides continue to strengthen close cooperation on parliamentary channels both at bilateral levels and at inter-parliamentary forums in the world and the region where the two National Assemblies are members; regularly coordinate to review and urge the implementation of cooperation agreements between the two National Assemblies and the two Governments.
