On September 30, President of the National Assembly of the People's Power, President of the State Council of the Republic of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez began an official visit to Vietnam and co-chaired the second meeting of the Vietnam - Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

The visit took place from September 30 to October 5, at the invitation of Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man. On the afternoon of September 30, the President of the Cuban National Assembly met with Politburo member and President Luong Cuong; held talks and attended a reception chaired by President of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man.

The visit of President of the National Assembly of the People's Power, President of the State Council of the Republic of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez and his delegation took place during the Friendship Year celebrating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba, and this was the 5th time Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernandez visited Vietnam as President of the Cuban National Assembly.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long, this official visit to Vietnam by Cuban National Assembly President Esteban Lazo Hernandez is of great significance in many aspects, because this is not only an annual high-level delegation exchange between the two National Assemblies, but also a political-diplomatic event of great influence, contributing to further strengthening and developing the special traditional solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.

First of all, the visit affirms the loyal bond between the two peoples. The President of the Cuban National Assembly is the first senior Cuban leader to officially visit Vietnam since the State visit of First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez at the invitation of General Secretary To Lam. This trip therefore aims to continue and concretize high-level agreements, promoting substantive cooperation in various fields.

The special highlight of the visit is that the two sides will co-chair the second meeting of the Vietnam - Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee. This is a mechanism established to create a framework for regular and direct cooperation between the two legislative bodies, providing an important supplement to the channel of relations between the Party, State and Government. This meeting was held in Hanoi after the success of the First meeting in Havana (September 2024). The two sides will review the achieved results, evaluate the effectiveness of implementing the agreed recommendations and discuss measures to remove obstacles to further deepen parliamentary cooperation.

Ambassador Le Quang Long assessed that the Vietnam - Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee is a new cooperation mechanism but has quickly proven its effectiveness and important role in the overall special relationship between the two countries. This is an initiative that demonstrates the strategic vision of the leaders of the two National Assemblies, aiming to create a channel for direct, regular, and organized exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

According to the Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba, over the years, cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National Assembly of Cuba has always been one of the bright spots in bilateral relations. This is a cooperation channel that is very important in supplementing the relationship between the two Parties and the two States.

"The official visit to Vietnam by National Assembly Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernandez and the co-chairing of the Second Session of the Vietnam - Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee are an important milestone in the relationship between the two countries. This event has profound political significance, opening up prospects for substantial cooperation in many fields, from parliamentary politics to economics, trade, science - technology, high-tech agriculture. This is a vivid testament to the special, loyal, pure and close traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cuba - an invaluable asset that needs to be preserved and promoted by today's and future generations" - the Ambassador said.
