Steadfast bravery and spirit of innovation
In nearly 100 years of revolutionary leadership, the Communist Party of Vietnam has gone through 13 Congresses, each Congress is an important milestone, bringing the country through difficulties and achieving great achievements.
The 14th Congress is of particular importance when summarizing 40 years of Doi Moi, affirming that the Party's Doi Moi policy is correct, creative, and consistent with Vietnamese practice and the development trend of the times.
At the 6th Congress (in 1986), the Party set out a roadmap for comprehensive national renovation, achieving great achievements. This is the beginning of the comprehensive renovation of the country. By the 11th Congress, our Party continued to orient to improve the leadership capacity and combat strength of the Party, and comprehensively promote the renovation.
By the term of the XIII Congress, the Party has led our people to achieve great achievements. Up to now, after nearly 40 years of implementing the renovation, under the leadership of the Party, our country has overcome all difficulties and reached great achievements of historical significance.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Thao - former Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics - assessed that we have emerged from the situation of slow development, entering the group of developing countries with middle incomes. This is a historically significant achievement, opening a new page in the history of the Vietnamese nation.
40 years of renovation have created a historical turning point, helping the country overcome the situation of slow development, gradually perfecting the socialist-oriented market economy.
From a backward agricultural country, Vietnam has become a large-scale economy in the region. In 2025, GDP reached more than 500 billion USD, being the fourth largest economy in ASEAN and 32nd in the world; trade turnover reached over 900 billion USD, ranking in the top 20 countries. Vietnam continues to be a bright spot in economic recovery and growth in a volatile global context.
Major shift in national development thinking
The 14th Congress of the Party marked a major shift in national development thinking; in which, taking innovation as motivation, taking people and culture as the foundation, taking independence and self-reliance associated with deep integration as the motto of action. This is the time for Vietnam to affirm its aspiration to rise up, open up intellectual potential, improve competitiveness and move towards rapid and sustainable development. The 14th Congress is not only political determination, but also the spirit of the era, the spirit of bringing Vietnam strongly into a new era.
The theme of the 14th Congress affirmed: "Steadily moving towards socialism" is a consistent continuation of the strategic stance; clearly and decisively affirming Vietnam's path to socialism. This is a particularly meaningful affirmation in the context of the world having many complex changes in development models and value systems.
Steadfastness" shows steadfast bravery, but at the same time contains the spirit of innovation, creativity, flexibility in methods, steps and implementation solutions, suitable to the specific conditions of Vietnam in each historical period.
The highlight of the 14th Congress is the convergence and crystallization of long-term strategic thinking. The Congress not only looks at the immediate term or a 5-year period, but puts the country in a multi-decade vision, associated with important development milestones of the nation.
That is the vision of a rapidly developing but sustainable economy, based on science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and a green economy. That is the vision of Vietnamese people as both the center, the subject, and the driving force of development.
General Secretary To Lam pointed out, "the strategic vision of the 14th Congress is also associated with very clear milestones: Choosing policies to successfully implement the goals to 2030 and realizing the vision to 2045. These are "milestones" to strive for, so that each sector, each locality, each agency and each citizen see themselves with specific tasks in the common journey".
This assessment not only affirms the stature and significance of the Congress, but also sets very high requirements for historical responsibility for each policy decided. Each policy is aimed at the goal of prosperity and happiness of the people, for the prosperity of the country. Therefore, the 14th Congress of the Party is also a gathering place for the will, aspirations, initiatives and aspirations of cadres, party members and people from all walks of life.
