Distorted arguments in cyberspace
The conspiracy to distort War Invalids and Martyrs' Day is not new, but in recent years there has been a trend of increasing frequency, expanding the target audience and becoming more sophisticated in tactics. In cyberspace, reactionary blogs and fan pages, political opportunists regularly post articles, clips, and images, using sarcastic tones, distorting the truth, in order to spread distorted perceptions.
From there, the subjects distort that "paying gratitude to those who have contributed to the revolution and the country is just a form of propaganda". The purpose of hostile and reactionary forces at home and abroad is skillfully to incorporate and recall historical events in a distorted direction, swapping concepts in cyberspace with rhetoric denying the value of sacrifice of Heroic Martyrs when claiming: "Die for meaningless ideals", "Sacrifice for the unjust war".
In fact, although the above tricks are not new tricks, whenever there is an opportunity, bad forces spread them with the intention of inciting gullible people. More dangerously, when those arguments are spread on social networking platforms with a large number of users such as Facebook, YouTube, Tiktok... they have the ability to widely reach vulnerable subjects such as young people, students, and pupils. From there, it erodes the trust of a part of the people, in order to cause "transformation", dividing the great national unity bloc.
Preserving the morality of "drinking water, remembering the source" to connect the great national unity bloc
First of all, it is necessary to affirm firmly that War Invalids and Martyrs' Day is the crystallization of blood and bones, a heroic testament to the indomitable patriotism of the nation and a bright symbol of Vietnamese revolutionary heroism. Millions of war invalids and martyrs have remained in the hearts of the motherland, so that the country can have peace and independence as today. No rhetoric can obscure that sacred value.
Immediately after the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) was born, President Ho Chi Minh laid the foundation for the work of caring for people with meritorious services. On February 16, 1947, he signed Decree No. 20/SL "Regulating the regime of pensions, injuries and death benefits for wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and martyrs", recognizing the merits of wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and martyrs. In President Ho Chi Minh's teachings about people with meritorious services, it is clearly shown: "Wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, families of soldiers and families of martyrs are people with meritorious services to the Fatherland, to the people. Therefore, our duty is to be grateful, to love and help them" [1].
Institutionalizing the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress, the Government issued Decree No. 55/2023/ND-CP dated July 21, 2023 amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree No. 75/2021/ND-CP, thereby increasing the standard level of allowances and preferential allowances for people with meritorious services to the revolution. In Resolution No. 42-NQ/TW dated November 24, 2023 of the Party Central Committee on continuing to innovate and improve the quality of social policies, meeting the requirements of the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland in the new stage, setting the goal by 2030, ensuring that 100% of people with meritorious services and families of people with meritorious services to the revolution are comprehensively cared for both materially and spiritually, with a living standard from average to fairly good compared to the living standard of the residential community where they reside.
Starting from the tradition of "When drinking water, remember the source", "Gratitude"; from the wishes of relatives of martyrs and people, on April 2, 2026, at the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel historical site, the National Steering Committee launched the "Operation of 500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains". This is not only an important political task but also an order from the heart, a sacred responsibility of the entire political system, of the entire people for those who sacrificed for the country; and also an opportunity to educate patriotism and national pride for today's and future generations.
Protecting historical truth, honoring the merits of people with meritorious services, fighting against distorted and destructive arguments - these are specific and practical actions expressing deep gratitude to those who fell for peace, independence, and freedom today and in the future. The rapid and timely implementation of the State's policies has contributed to quickly creating comprehensive political, economic and social strength; consensus between the Party, State, people and people with meritorious services to the revolution themselves; deeply impacting the whole society, together with the State, taking care of people with meritorious services to the revolution, promoting the tradition and morality of the nation: "When drinking water, remember the source", "Gratitude".
