Proposing New Zealand to continue increasing the number of scholarships for Vietnamese students

President Luong Cuong suggested that New Zealand continue to increase the number of scholarships for Vietnamese students.

On August 29, at the Presidential Palace, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong received New Zealand National Assembly Chairman Gerry Brownlee on the occasion of the National Assembly Chairman's official visit to Vietnam.

President Luong Cuong welcomed National Assembly Chairman Gerry Brownlee for his first official visit to Vietnam; highly appreciated the important visit on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1975-2025) and Vietnam celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2; believing that the visit will contribute to further developing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and New Zealand.

President Luong Cuong sent his condolences to the Governor of New Zealand Cindy Kiro, highly appreciating New Zealand as a trusted partner, active cooperation and support for Vietnam over the past half century; emphasizing that upgrading the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in February 2025 has opened a new phase of cooperation, bringing the bilateral relationship to a more comprehensive and extensive development, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

The President of the New Zealand National Assembly expressed his pleasure to visit Vietnam on the occasion of the Vietnamese people celebrating National Day; saying that this is a very special occasion to witness the pride and national spirit of the Vietnamese people.

National Assembly Chairman Gerry Brownlee sincerely thanked the warm welcome of the State and people of Vietnam; expressed his impression of Vietnam's strong development over the past 80 years; assessed that Vietnam is playing an increasingly high role and position in regional and international forums and affirmed his desire to continuously strengthen the friendship between Vietnam and New Zealand.

The two leaders were pleased with the outstanding achievements in cooperation in many fields, especially education and training, agriculture, trade, culture, and people-to-people exchanges; agreed that the two sides should continue to concretize the contents of the new relationship framework through the early signing of the Action Program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2025-2030 period with specific cooperation programs and measures in various fields.

The two leaders agreed to continue to strengthen political trust, increase visits and exchanges at high and all levels; deepen cooperation in national defense and security; increase information exchange and assessment of regional and world situations.

Appreciating the importance of people-to-people exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations, the two leaders agreed to further promote closer ties between the people of the two countries through cooperation in education and training, tourism and trade relations.

President Luong Cuong suggested that New Zealand continue to increase the number of scholarships for Vietnamese students, while creating conditions for the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in New Zealand.

National Assembly Chairman Gerry Brownlee affirmed that New Zealand highly appreciates the contributions of the Vietnamese community in New Zealand and pledged to care for and create favorable conditions for the community.
