General Secretary To Lam mentioned this content at the Conference on meetings with revolutionary veterans, former members of the Party Central Committee of all periods, former leaders of Party departments and agencies, the Fatherland Front and central socio-political organizations, held on August 18.
The meeting was one of the activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
Overcoming low average income
On behalf of the Party and State leaders speaking at the meeting, General Secretary To Lam discussed with delegates about the country's socio-economic achievements.
Accordingly, the GDP scale from 346 billion USD in 2020, ranked 37th in the world, is expected to increase to over 510 billion USD in 2025, 1.48 times higher than in 2020, ranked 32nd in the world and 4th in the ASEAN region; GDP per capita is 1.4 times higher, increasing from 3,552 USD to about 5,000 USD.
Average national income (GNI) per capita will increase from $3,400 to about $4,750 by 2025, surpassing the low-average income level. This is a proud result in the extremely difficult context in the past 5 years.
The army and police have mastered and produced many types of modern weapons and equipment
Along with directing the focus of resources on investing in developing synchronous and modern strategic infrastructure, the General Secretary emphasized the need to care for people's lives.
The General Secretary said that by the end of 2024, the poverty rate according to the multidimensional poverty standard will be 1.93% (the rate at the beginning of the term is 5.2%) to reach the target assigned by the National Assembly and the Government; determined that by August 31, the whole country will eliminate all temporary and dilapidated houses; The Politburo will decide to exempt tuition fees for high school students from kindergarten to high school from the end of this new school year; policies to build inter-level primary and secondary schools for 248 border communes on the land; increase health insurance support, increase people's life expectancy... The Politburo will issue 2 resolutions on education and training, health protection and health care for people towards extending their life expectancy.
The General Secretary also clearly stated the concern of the Party and State for investment and development of national defense and security. Both the Army and the Police are reorganized in a streamlined, compact, and strong direction; the national defense and security posture is arranged in accordance with the new development space of the country. Military art and security art have been raised a step in line with the current situation.
In the context of the complicated world situation, the General Secretary thoroughly grasped the spirit of not being passive or surprised, maintaining the stability of the country and people must live in peace and stability.
The General Secretary emphasized that the people's armed forces are rapidly moving towards a disciplined, elite, and modern goal; strong enough to fight and win against all types of war; strong enough to maintain political security and social order and safety.
According to the General Secretary, both the Army and the Police are reorganized in a streamlined, compact, and strong direction. Forces, weapons, military equipment, and security are capable of meeting the task of protecting the Fatherland. territorial sovereignty and national integrity are guaranteed and maintained, national defense and security strength is much better than before. The army and police have mastered and produced many types of modern weapons and equipment.
