On the afternoon of June 30, the Standing Committee of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee held a ceremony to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the establishment of Dong Thap province (July 1, 2025 - July 1, 2026) with the theme "Dong Thap - One river, steadily developing". The program was held at the Ap Bac Hall and connected online to 102 communes and wards throughout the province.
Speaking at the anniversary ceremony, Mr. Ngo Chi Cuong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Dong Thap province - emphasized that the merger not only has the meaning of arranging administrative boundaries but also the convergence of historical and cultural values, revolutionary traditions, people and development potential of the two regions.
With an area of nearly 6,000 km2 and a population of more than 4.3 million people, Dong Thap is positioned as an important growth pole of the Mekong Delta region.
According to the Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee, despite facing many difficulties in the early days after the merger, from consolidating the organizational structure to the requirement to maintain socio-economic growth, but with the spirit of "One vision - One will - One belief", the Party Committee, government and people of the province have united, turning challenges into opportunities.
To date, the two-level local government model has operated stably, flexibly and effectively; administrative reform work continues to be promoted, gradually building an administration to serve people and businesses. Socio-economy maintains positive growth momentum with GRDP in the first 6 months of 2026 increasing by over 7.11%, budget revenue reaching nearly 14,000 billion VND, the number of newly established businesses increasing by more than 140% compared to the same period; exports, tourism and cultural and social fields all recorded many positive results.
Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee said that the biggest result after a year of merger is the consensus of the people, the solidarity in the entire political system and the belief of the business community in the province's development prospects. He also acknowledged and praised the contributions of the team of cadres, civil servants, public employees, armed forces, business community and people who joined forces to overcome difficulties in the meaningful first year.
At the program, the Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee praised collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in advising and organizing the implementation of the policy of merging and deploying the two-level local government model.
Orienting for the next stage, Provincial Party Secretary Ngo Chi Cuong affirmed that Dong Thap will focus on implementing breakthroughs in transportation and logistics infrastructure, developing ecological agriculture, processing industry, improving the quality of human resources and promoting digital transformation, building digital government, digital economy, and digital society. The province aims to develop in the direction of "Green - Smart - Creative - Rich in cultural identity", creating a foundation to become a rapidly and sustainably developing locality, belonging to the leading group in the Mekong Delta region.
