On June 27, regarding the establishment of the new Gia Lai province on July 1, 2025, the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee requested agencies and units in the area to review, consolidate and operate the new administrative apparatus smoothly.
Accordingly, after a historic journey of more than 93 years (from May 24, 1932), since the founding of the province, Gia Lai has officially merged with Binh Dinh province to form the new Gia Lai province.
Gia Lai Provincial Party Secretary, Mr. Ho Van Nien, affirmed: The merger of the two provinces is a new beginning for a strong and harmonious development between the plateau and the coast, between the strengths of agriculture, industry and services, between the depth of tradition and modern aspirations. This is the time for us to be more united and more responsible for the long-term interests of the people".
In the past, Gia Lai has prepared to seriously arrange provincial-level administrative units in accordance with the direction of the Central Government. The province has closely coordinated with Binh Dinh province and central agencies to develop a merger plan to ensure closeness, science, reasonableness, and maintain stability in the organization of the apparatus, personnel, political system, national defense, and security.
Up to now, all preparations for the ceremony to announce the merger of the two provinces have been basically completed. Gia Lai will organize the event with the whole country at 8:00 a.m. on June 30, 2025.
On July 1, 2025, Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces will officially merge and form a new province called Gia Lai province according to the Resolution of the Central Government and the Resolution of the National Assembly.
The Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee requested agencies and units to urgently complete preparations for personnel, finance, facilities, digital data, document systems, etc. to serve the organization and operation of the unification after the merger at the provincial level.
At the same time, strengthen ideological work, grasp the situation of cadres, party members and people, promptly resolve legitimate petitions, avoid prolonged hot spots and complaints.
Ensure national defense, security and absolute safety during the transition period, especially in key areas, ethnic minority areas and border areas.
Regarding the merger of Gia Lai province with Binh Dinh province, the new Gia Lai province will have 135 commune-level administrative units, including 110 communes and 25 wards. After the merger, the new Gia Lai province will have a natural area of over 21,550km2, the second largest in the country (after the new Lam Dong province), with a population of about 3.5 million people.
