On May 1, the 16th Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee approved the basic content of the draft project and plan to reorganize Kon Tum province with Quang Ngai province.
In which, there is a plan to arrange commune-level administrative units in Kon Tum province, unifying the number of commune-level administrative units after the arrangement to 40 units (37 communes and 3 wards).
The Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee leads the provincial People's Committee to actively coordinate with the People's Committee of Quang Ngai Province to complete the project of arranging Quang Ngai and Kon Tum province, after collecting opinions of the people and sending to the People's Councils at all levels to vote on the policy of arranging administrative units at the provincial level as prescribed.
The Propaganda Department and the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department organize dissemination, dissemination, and extensive propaganda in many forms to raise awareness, create solidarity and unity among cadres, party members, civil servants, public employees, workers, and people on the policy of streamlining the apparatus of the political system.
Regarding the merger of provinces, the authorities of Kon Tum and Quang Ngai provinces are preparing documents, agreeing on route directions, and construction materials to serve the construction of the expressway connecting the two provinces.
Provincial Road 676 connecting Kon Plong district with Son Tay and Son Ha districts (Quang Ngai) is also being urgently constructed to facilitate traffic connection.
Quang Ngai province is preparing new conditions for accommodation, living, and working headquarters for Kon Tum provincial officials to work.
After the merger, the new Quang Ngai province will have an area of over 14,800 km2, ranking 4th in the country after the provinces: Lam Dong (24,233.1 km2), Gia Lai (21,576.5 km2) and Dak Lak (18,096.4 km2).
The new province will have an administrative - political center in Quang Ngai city, with 2 airports in the planning at two famous tourist destinations, Mang Den and Ly Son island, with a population of more than 2.16 million people.
