The Fatherland Front received more donations than when it was declared

After publicly announcing the statement of donations to flood victims, the number of supporters and contributions to the Fatherland Front's account increased.

On October 18, the Standing Committee of the 10th Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) held a press conference to announce the results of the Congress.

Responding to the press regarding the issue of calling for support and making a statement of the amount of money donated to people affected by Typhoon Yagi, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien said that the transparency of the amount of money donated is a pressure on the Standing Committee and the Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front himself.

"Pressure because I have never done it before, the first time is always difficult. The public disclosure of donation statements received great consensus from all walks of life.

However, there are also opinions that making such statements public does not ensure privacy. Therefore, the Vietnam Fatherland Front has consulted with lawyers and found that doing so is correct," Mr. Do Van Chien affirmed.

According to Mr. Do Van Chien, to respect the privacy of donors who donate large amounts of money but do not want to disclose their identities, in the near future, the Vietnam Fatherland Front will deploy separate donation accounts.

"When it is public and transparent, the number of supporters and contributions is higher than before, increasing very quickly," said the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

Regarding the allocation, Mr. Do Van Chien said that from the launch of the support campaign for people affected by Typhoon Yagi until October 10, the Central Relief Committee received 2,091 billion VND.

Of which, VND1,035 billion has been allocated to 26 provinces and cities to support people in building new houses and repairing houses; supporting families of the dead, injured, and missing; supporting food and supplies to ensure no one goes hungry or lacks food and water; and helping students return to school.

Citing the fact that "there was a case where the village chief was very flexible and creative when many groups came to support houses near the road, but no one came to the far-away households, so the village chief encouraged benefactors to try to go to the remote areas", the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front commented that this was a method suitable for practice.

Mr. Do Van Chien emphasized the commitment that if anyone discovers that this source is used for the wrong purpose, ineffectively, or with negative signs, he will be rewarded. Because this is very sacred money.

He directed the entire Vietnam Fatherland Front system to use the State budget for receiving, allocating, and using the costs, and not to use "a single cent, a single dong" of people's contributions.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front also requires all families, organizations and individuals who are beneficiaries to publicly post at the commune People's Committee headquarters. This is to ensure transparency at both the receiving and distributing ends.

Regarding supervision, according to Mr. Do Van Chien, at the year-end meeting of the People's Council at the commune and district levels, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front requires the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels to report to the People's Council.

By doing so, the Vietnam Fatherland Front hopes to minimize any possible negative effects.
