In Official Dispatch No. 3926/VPCP-CN dated May 7, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha assigned the Minister of Construction to be responsible for reviewing and ensuring sufficient grounds for adjusting the planning according to the shortened procedures according to the provisions of Article 54a of the Law on Planning amended and supplemented in Law No. 57/2024/QH15 dated November 29, 2024; in which, it is noted to assess air safety, ensuring no overlap or conflict.
When there is sufficient basis to adjust the planning according to shortened procedures, the Minister of Construction shall approve the planning adjustment and report to the Prime Minister according to regulations.
Previously, the Ministry of Construction had submitted proposals to the Government on the Projects to study the possibility of forming Mang Den Airport and Van Phong Airport.
According to the proposal, Mang Den Airport is expected to be located in Mang Den town, Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province; about 45 km northeast of Kon Tum city center, about 73 km northeast of Pleiku Airport, about 105 km northwest of Phu Cat Airport, about 93 km southwest of Chu Lai Airport.
The planned airport area is located entirely on a mountainous area, with an estimated area of about 350 hectares. The planned capacity by 2030 is about 1 million passengers/year (oriented to renovate the route to exploit beyond capacity for the period after 2030); 4C airport is granted (according to the decentralization of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO).
Van Phong airport is expected to be located in Van Thang commune, Van Ninh district, Khanh Hoa province; about 65 km south of Nha Trang city, about 108 km south of Cam Ranh International Airport, about 48 km north of Tuy Hoa airport.
The proposed airport planning area is located entirely on the coastal water surface, with an estimated area of about 497.1 hectares. The planned capacity by 2030 is about 1.5 million passengers/year; vision to 2050 is about 2.5 million passengers/year; 4E airport is granted (according to the decentralization of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO).
According to the Master Plan for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Van Phong and Mang Den are identified as potential airport locations.
