The National Assembly Standing Committee has just issued Resolution No. 1668/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of Can Tho city (City) in 2025.
According to the resolution, after the arrangement, Can Tho city has 103 commune-level administrative units, including 31 wards and 72 communes. Of which, there are 30 wards and 65 communes formed after the arrangement and 8 commune-level administrative units that do not carry out the arrangement are Tan Loc ward, Truong Long, Thanh Phu, Thoi Hung, Phong Nam, My Phuoc, Lai Hoa, Vinh Hai communes.
Notably, some famous landmarks of the three localities of Can Tho, Soc Trang and Hau Giang are still retained after the reorganization process.
Ninh Kieu Ward (formerly Ninh Kieu District, the administrative and cultural center of Can Tho City) will be established on the basis of arranging the entire natural area and population of Tan An, Thoi Binh and Xuan Khanh wards.
Soc Trang Ward (formerly Soc Trang City, Soc Trang Province) was formed on the basis of arranging the entire natural area and population of Ward 5, Ward 6, Ward 7 and Ward 8.
Vi Thanh Ward (formerly Vi Thanh City, the center of Hau Giang Province) will be established on the basis of arranging the entire natural area and population of Ward I, Ward III and Ward VII.
Nga Bay Ward, the place name associated with Nga Bay Floating Market, also known as Nga Bay City (Hau Giang Province), will be established from the merger of Lai Hieu, Hiep Thanh and Nga Bay Wards.
In addition, some other locations associated with history and land of the three localities such as Thot Not, Cai Rang, Long My, Ke Sach, My Xuyen, Cu Lao Dung, Long Phu, Phu Loc, etc. were also retained.
