On the morning of June 30, in Can Tho City, the Steering Committee 2088 held a Ceremony to announce the Resolution and Decision of the Central and local governments on merging provincial and commune-level administrative units, establishing party organizations, appointing Party committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of cities, communes, wards, and special zones.
Attending the ceremony were Mr. Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

At the ceremony, Mr. Le Quang Tung, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary General of the National Assembly, Head of the National Assembly Office, announced Resolution No. 202/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units.
According to the Resolution, the entire natural area and population of Can Tho city, Soc Trang province and Hau Giang province will be arranged into a new city called Can Tho city. After the arrangement, Can Tho city has a natural area of 6,360.83 km2 and a population of 4,199,824 people. Can Tho city borders the provinces of An Giang, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, Vinh Long and the East Sea.
Announcing Resolution 203/2025/QH15 dated June 16, 2025 on amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
According to the Resolution, after the arrangement of Can Tho city, Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces will become Can Tho city (new). Can Tho city has 103 commune-level administrative units, including 31 wards and 72 communes. Of which, 30 wards and 65 communes were formed after the reorganization and 08 commune-level administrative units that did not implement the reorganization were Tan Loc ward, Truong Long, Thanh Phu, Thoi Hung, Phong Nam, My Phuoc, Lai Hoa, Vinh Hai communes.

Decision of the Politburo on the establishment of the Can Tho City Party Committee. In Decision No. 324-QD/TW, the Politburo decided to establish the Can Tho City Party Committee under the Central Party Executive Committee on the basis of merging 3 Party Committees: Can Tho City, Soc Trang Province and Hau Giang Province.
Decision 2155 - QDNS/TW of the Politburo on appointing the Executive Committee, Standing Committee, Secretary, and Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee for the 2020 - 2025 term. Accordingly, the Executive Committee of the Can Tho City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term consists of 79 comrades. Appointed the Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Party Committee consisting of 20 comrades.
Appointed Mr. Do Thanh Binh, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee (old) to hold the position of Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee (new) for the 2020 - 2025 term.
Appoint Mr. Dong Van Thanh, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Hau Giang province to hold the position of Standing Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee (new), term 2021 - 2026 (to appoint him as Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Council for the term 2021 - 2026).
The appointed Deputy Secretaries of the Can Tho City Party Committee (new) include: Mr. Tran Van Lau, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province (to be appointed to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City (new) for the 2021 - 2026 term).
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the XV National Assembly Delegation of Hau Giang Province (to be appointed to hold the position of Head of the XV National Assembly Delegation of Can Tho City (new) for the 2021 - 2026 term).
Ms. Ho Thi Cam Dao - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the People's Council of Soc Trang province. Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City (old). Mr. Tran Van Huyen, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee.
