On the morning of June 30, the two provinces of Kien Giang - An Giang held a ceremony to announce the establishment of the new An Giang province on the basis of merging the two provinces of Kien Giang and An Giang; announced the Resolutions and decisions of the Central and local governments on merging provincial and commune-level administrative units, ending the operation of district-level administrative units, establishing a party organization, appointing Party committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of provinces, communes, wards, and special zones. Attending and directing were Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh and former leaders of the Party and State.
At the ceremony, Resolutions and Decisions of the Central Government on the organization of the apparatus and personnel for the merger of An Giang province were announced and presented; Resolutions of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly and Decisions of the province were announced and presented to communes, wards and special zones under An Giang province.
Announcing the National Assembly's Resolution on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units; the Politburo's Decision on the establishment of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee and decisions on personnel. Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai (Secretary of the Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee) was appointed to hold the position of Secretary of the new An Giang Provincial Party Committee.

Based on the merger of Kien Giang and An Giang provinces, the new An Giang province has a large development space with a natural area of 9,888.91 km2, a population of 4,952,238 people, and 102 commune-level administrative units, including 85 communes, 14 wards and 3 special zones.
At the ceremony, the Prime Minister's decision to appoint Mr. Ho Van Mung, Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee (before the merger) to hold the position of Chairman of the An Giang People's Committee (new), term 2021 - 2026 was announced.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh said: An Giang province now fully converges diverse geographical factors, from seas, islands, mountains and forests to fertile plains, with a system of transportation infrastructure, irrigation, electricity and water being invested increasingly synchronously, along with abundant local labor. This is an outstanding opportunity and outstanding competitive advantage in developing the marine economy, eco-tourism, high-tech agriculture and processing industry.
In order for the new An Giang Party committees, authorities and organizations to operate smoothly, efficiently, effectively, efficiently and promptly, better meeting the requirements of people and businesses, the Deputy Prime Minister requested that the Party committees, authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the organizations of An Giang province ensure immediate smooth operation, proactively develop specific action plans, in which it is necessary to clearly identify tasks, solutions, roadmaps and implementation progress to achieve the highest results, effectively put the Central's major and new strategic policies and orientations into practice and promote the spirit of exemplary action for the common good.

"From tomorrow, July 1, all work under the authority of both the provincial and commune levels must be carried out smoothly, without delay or failure. The core spirit is to better serve people and businesses, while preserving the image and style of cadres from administrative service to serving the people. For places where the commune level still lacks professional staff, the provincial level needs to proactively arrange and increase in a timely and complete manner to support and ensure uninterrupted work, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
Speaking at the ceremony, An Giang Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Tien Hai said that he would seriously accept the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh. The An Giang Provincial Party Committee and government will immediately carry out key tasks according to the direction of the Central Government.
The province will urgently fully implement the procedures for establishing administrative organizations, agencies and units of the province and commune level; appoint, appoint, arrange, and assign cadres, civil servants and public employees in accordance with the approved plan; ensure no delays or interruptions in public service activities, and maintain smooth and effective operations from July 1.

Urgently operate the Provincial Public Administration Service Center and communes, wards, and special zones in the direction of strong administrative reform, operating continuously, smoothly, and effectively. In particular, fully updating new processes and procedures; transparency and application of information technology to better serve organizations and individuals, especially handling records through the National Public Service Portal.
The Provincial Party Standing Committee will focus on directing the completion of the two-level Party Congresses, ensuring the content and within the time prescribed by the Central Committee; directing the preparation of the Provincial Party Congress, towards the 14th National Congress of the Party.
