On the morning of August 25, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee held a conference to announce the Politburo's decision on personnel work.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nen was dismissed by the Politburo from the position of Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and assigned to be the Standing Committee of the 14th National Party Congress Documents Subcommittee.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nen will continue to monitor and direct the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee until the 14th National Party Congress.
The person replacing Mr. Nguyen Van Nen as Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee is Mr. Tran Luu Quang.
Speaking at the new assignment, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen expressed his emotion and sent his sincere thanks to Ho Chi Minh City - where he has lived, devoted, struggled and accompanied the people throughout his term.
On behalf of the Party Committee and people of the City, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen respectfully thanked the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front, central agencies, and leaders of provinces and cities for always paying attention, directing, supporting, and helping Ho Chi Minh City take the same development steps as today.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nen also expressed his deep gratitude to former leaders of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front; Ho Chi Minh City Party Executive Committee of all periods; leaders at all levels, armed forces, along with compatriots, comrades, intellectuals, artists, businessmen, religions and international friends.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, Ho Chi Minh City has gone through a challenging journey, especially in the recent term with pandemic, pain, loss and many fluctuations at home and abroad.
However, thanks to the spirit of solidarity and compatriotism, the City has overcome difficulties, proving the extraordinary strength of the political system and people - people who are "s premiere but noble; quietly humble but dedicated, brave; rustic but tolerant, just".
Mr. Nguyen Van Nen emphasized that up to now, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee has completed the Congresses at all levels one week earlier than the regulations; the documents and personnel plan for the first Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Congress have been approved by the Politburo and are continuing to be completed.
The key goals and tasks of the 2020 - 2025 term have basically been completed, the new City model after the reorganization has been operating synchronously, relatively smoothly, and the difficulties and obstacles are being gradually resolved.
