Lao Dong Newspaper respectfully publishes the speech of General Secretary To Lam during his visit to congratulate the health sector and the collective of officials, doctors and staff of Huu Nghi Hospital on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day.

Dear comrades in the Central working delegation,

Dear doctors, professors, doctors, staff, employees, workers of Huu Nghi Hospital and health sector officials nationwide.

Dear distinguished delegates,

In the warm atmosphere of Binh Ngo spring, with the spirit, belief and aspiration to develop the country in the new era, today I am very happy and excited to visit and congratulate the health sector and the collective of officials, doctors, and staff of Huu Nghi Hospital on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27, 1955 - February 27, 2026).

This is an opportunity for the whole society to express deep gratitude to doctors, who are directly caring for and protecting patients' health every day and every hour, improving the quality of healthcare serving the people, protecting the race and preserving the longevity of the nation.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, I cordially send to all doctors, officials, employees, and workers of the health sector nationwide in general, and Huu Nghi Hospital in particular, my sincere regards and best wishes.

Dear comrades,

Exactly 71 years ago, our beloved President Ho Chi Minh advised the health sector: "Doctors must be like mothers"; "medical staff need to love and care for patients like their own siblings, treating their pain as much as their own pain". Uncle Ho's words are simple but contain a great truth, a high standard, a sacred moral order. Uncle Ho puts the doctor in the position not only of a healer, but of a person who takes care of patients with both intelligence and heart; not only doing the profession, doing expertise, but also shouldering a noble mission, a responsibility, contributing to the people, to the Fatherland.

Over more than seven decades of construction and growth, Vietnam's healthcare industry has continuously grown stronger, overcome countless difficulties and challenges, and gradually affirmed its role as one of the important pillars of the cause of building and protecting the country. From the early days of hardship and lack in many ways, to today, we have built an increasingly complete, widespread, gradually modern healthcare system, capable of implementing advanced techniques that previously only developed countries' medicine could do.

The health sector has made an important contribution to improving health, quality of life and prolonging the life expectancy of the people. Each citizen is born safer, gets better treatment, lives longer, and is healthier - that is not only the achievement of the health sector alone, but also the achievement of the socialist regime, a vivid manifestation of the good and humane nature of our State.

It can be said that: the health sector is a place of convergence of intelligence and compassion; a place where science is associated with conscience and responsibility; a place where every professional advance is associated with human values. Doctors not only heal physical injuries, but also soothe worries and mental pain; not only prolong life, but also support the trust of patients and people.

We cherish even more the silent but great contributions of the team of doctors across the country. Behind each achievement are sleepless nights, stressful moments, and silent sacrifices. There are doctors who spend their youth in the hospital room; there are those who dedicate their whole lives to the cause of saving people. Doctors do not seek personal glory, but they create the aura for the health sector and for the country.

Dear comrades,

In the current context, as the country enters a new stage of development, the requirements set for the health sector are increasingly high, especially in the implementation of the Resolution of the 14th Party Congress and Resolution No. 72 of the Politburo on a number of breakthrough solutions, strengthening the protection, care and improvement of people's health, requiring the health sector to make more efforts, especially when the people not only want to be treated, but also want to receive comprehensive care; not only want to receive good treatment, but also want to be served with increasingly higher quality, more humane and modern.

Faced with that requirement, the health sector needs to continue to strongly innovate, focusing on effectively implementing the following 04 urgent and strategic tasks:

First of all, it is necessary to be steadfast in the highest goal: which is to implement universal health coverage, ensuring that every citizen has access to and uses medical services in a timely, quality and fair manner. Do not let anyone get sick without being cared for. Do not let geographical distance, economic conditions or social circumstances become barriers to people's right to health care.

Second, it is necessary to constantly improve the quality of medical examination and treatment, putting patients at the center of all activities. Each hospital must be a place where patients come to with faith and leave with peace of mind. Each doctor must be a support for patients in the most difficult moments, the life-death boundary of a person's life.

Third, it is necessary to take care of building a team of medical staff who are solid in medical theory, good at medical skills, bright in medical ethics, deep in responsibility, steadfast in bravery, and dedicated to patients. People are the decisive factor. Science can progress day by day, equipment can be modernized every hour, but the final decisive factor is still the doctor - the person who directly carries knowledge and heart to save patients.

Fourth, it is necessary to promote the application of science and technology, innovate management methods, and improve the operational efficiency of the health system, to serve the people better, faster, and more conveniently.

The most important thing is to maintain and promote the core values of the health sector - that is compassion, responsibility, and dedication to people. Because after all, the greatest strength of the health sector lies not only in machinery or technology, but in the heart and mind of a doctor.

Comrades,

I am very pleased to know that in the past time, Huu Nghi Hospital has achieved many important and comprehensive achievements as reported by the Director of the Hospital. The hospital has continuously improved professional quality, built a team of highly qualified officials with a steadfast sense of responsibility, bright medical ethics, and excellently completed the task of caring for and protecting the health of middle and high-ranking officials of the Party and State and many other subjects.

This is a particularly important task, which not only requires high professional qualifications, but also firm political bravery, high sense of responsibility and absolute dedication to service. The results achieved by the Hospital are very commendable, proving the good tradition, the intelligence and dedication of generations of hospital officials and doctors.

Huu Nghi Hospital is not only a place to treat diseases, but also a place to send trust; not only a medical facility, but also a symbol of responsibility wholeheartedly for patients. I believe that, with its glorious tradition, with a team of dedicated staff, with the desire to rise up strongly, Huu Nghi Hospital will continue to develop, continue to affirm its position as one of the leading medical facilities, and continue to make worthy contributions to the cause of caring for, protecting and improving people's health.

On the occasion of the New Year and Vietnamese Doctors' Day, once again I would like to wish all doctors, officials, and employees of the health sector nationwide in general, and Huu Nghi Hospital in particular, health, happiness and success. Wishing comrades to always maintain the flame of intelligence, compassion, and noble responsibility; always worthy of the mission and the trust and love of the Party, State and people.

Thank you very much.
