On the afternoon of October 16, in Da Nang, the Military Region 5 Command solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Military Armed Forces (LLVT) Traditional Day and received the Ho Chi Minh Medal. Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the ceremony, congratulating the contributions, feats and achievements of the 5th Military Region in 80 years of construction, fighting and growth.
The predecessor of the Vietnam Military Region 5 is the Ba To Gunners and the guards and self-defense teams born during the resistance war against Japan, which were the core for the people to gain power in the South Central region. In the resistance war against France, the Vietnam Military Command of Inter-zone 5 quickly developed in organization, technical and tactical aspects; launched campaigns in Quang Nam - Da Nang, the Central Highlands, Khanh Hoa; protected the free zone of South - Ngai - Binh - Phu and helped build a base in Southern Laos and Northeast Cambodia. Many outstanding feats such as Don Nhat - Hai Van Quan, Dak Do, Bo Bo... have contributed to the overall victory of the whole country.
In the resistance war against the US, the Vietnamese soldiers of Military Region 5 steadfastly stuck to, creatively hit "twice, three artillery pieces", " grabbed the enemy's belt and hit", achieving many resounding victories: Nui Thanh, Ba Gia, Van Tuong, Doi Tranh - Quang Thanh, Hiep Duc, Dong Duong, Dak To - Tan Canh... contributing to the great victory of the spring 1975.
After the day of unification, the Vietnamese Army of Military Region 5 overcame the consequences of war, maintained security and order, and fulfilled international obligations, helping the Cambodian people escape the epidemic of elimination and supporting Laos to protect and liberate part of the territory - leaving the image of the "Buddha Army" in the hearts of your people.
Entering the new phase, Military Region 5 focuses on building a national defense associated with a people's security posture and a solid defense area; organizing many large-scale drills, live ammunition firing, civil defense drills, improving the quality of the overall system and combat strength. During natural disasters and epidemics, officers and soldiers are always present at the front line, doing mass mobilization, helping people develop, eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, spreading the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the new era.
With outstanding achievements, the Vietnamese Army of Military Region 5 was honored to receive the Gold Star Medal twice from the Party and State, the Ho Chi Minh Medal 3 times; the Lao State awarded the waitala Medal, the Labor Medal; the Kingdom of Cambodia awarded the Friendship Medal; 942 collectives and 474 individuals were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Army along with many other noble awards.
At the ceremony, the Vietnamese soldiers of Military Region 5 were honored to receive the Ho Chi Minh Medal, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of his birth.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh praised the great contributions of the forces in the cause of fighting, building and defending the Fatherland, affirming that the Armed Forces of Military Region 5 are always worthy of the heroic tradition, promoting the "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the new era.
