On March 31, in Hanoi, General Nguyen Tan Cuong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense - chaired the meeting of the General Staff in March 2026.
Speaking at the conference, General Nguyen Tan Cuong praised the outstanding results in the task implementation of agencies and units from the beginning of the year to now. At the same time, he requested the entire army to strictly maintain combat readiness, monitor, firmly grasp the situation, promptly advise, and effectively handle situations, not to be passive or surprised.
Effectively coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security to maintain security and order throughout the country, especially during the First Session of the 16th National Assembly. The General Staff focused on completing the Directive on combat readiness for the People's Army and militia and self-defense forces; directive on ammunition reserves and logistics materials to ensure combat readiness; directive on the management and use of weapons and ammunition ready for combat.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong noted that units should strengthen patrols, inspections, and prevent illegal entry and exit and sabotage activities of reactionary forces on border lines, seas, and islands.
Propagate, drive away, and prevent foreign ships from violating and encroaching on Vietnamese waters, protecting the safety of marine economic activities; resolutely prevent, combat, and prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated seafood exploitation. Strictly implement safety measures in flight operations; strictly manage unmanned aircraft and other aircraft.
Strengthen information control in cyberspace; ensure timely communication, command and direction keys, terrain documents and geographic information for units throughout the army.
Along with firmly grasping the personnel situation, organization of staff at agencies and units and the quality of new soldiers, General Nguyen Tan Cuong requested the General Staff to pay attention to monitoring units and localities organizing training, exercises, education and training, competitions, and sports for subjects to ensure strictness and in accordance with the program and plan.
Strictly maintain the on-duty rescue and relief regime at all levels, proactively grasp the situation, advise and propose effective handling of natural disaster incidents, search and rescue, epidemics and environmental disasters; firmly maintain the cryptographic technical system, transfer and receive command and direction content to ensure secrecy, accuracy, and timeliness in all situations. Deploy defense foreign affairs activities, international cooperation, and United Nations peacekeeping according to plan.
