On the morning of October 10, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Hanoi City solemnly held a national ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).
This is the most important event in the series of activities celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day.
General Secretary, President To Lam; National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, central departments, ministries and sectors, Hanoi City; international delegates and delegates from provinces and cities across the country; veteran revolutionaries, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, and Heroes of Labor attended the ceremony.
Evidence of national strength, solidarity, and aspiration for peace
Delivering a speech at the ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam said that today, in the capital Hanoi, a thousand years of culture and heroism, the City for Peace, the heart of the whole country, we solemnly celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital.
General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that we will never forget the historic moment on the morning of October 10, 1954, when the City Military Committee and military units divided into many large groups and launched a historic march into Hanoi. More than four hundred thousand people in the capital were excited and joyful in the forest of flags and flowers, filled with the spirit of "The army marched like waves, layer upon layer of troops returned. We brought back the glory of the nation, and our whole lives were joyful from now on", welcoming the victorious army, the revolutionary army, and Uncle Ho's army back.
On the same afternoon, tens of thousands of people and armed forces happily and emotionally attended the flag-raising ceremony organized by the Military Committee at the Flagpole Stadium and listened to President Ho Chi Minh's call to the people of the Capital on the occasion of Liberation Day.
“That historic moment was a testament to the national strength, solidarity, and aspiration for peace of our people; a milestone that opened a new period of development for the capital and the country; marked the complete defeat of French colonialism in Vietnam, ending 9 years of protracted resistance. Hanoi - the capital of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - was cleared of enemies; our people were masters of their own destiny and the country's, enthusiastically starting to build a new society, a socialist society; opening a new, extremely glorious period in the thousand-year history of culture and heroism of Thang Long - Hanoi in the Ho Chi Minh era” - General Secretary and President To Lam stated.
According to the General Secretary and President, after being liberated, under the leadership of the Party, with the spirit of self-reliance, hard work and creativity, the capital Hanoi overcame the consequences of war, restored the economy, transformed socialism, and built and developed.
From a city with a relatively small scale, area, population, backward infrastructure and economy, heavily devastated by war after liberation, Hanoi today has become the national political and administrative nerve center, a major center of culture, science, education, economy and international integration; one of the 17 largest cities in the world with an increasingly civilized, modern, dynamic, creative appearance, imbued with the eternal cultural and historical values of the thousand-year-old land of Dong Do - Thang Long.
“The great achievements that Hanoi has achieved are all associated with the wise leadership of the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam, of the great President Ho Chi Minh, the crystallization of patriotism, solidarity, diligence, talent and creativity, bravery and resilience in fighting, working and studying of generations of cadres, party members, compatriots and soldiers of the capital; the cooperation and assistance of ministries, departments, branches, central and local organizations in the whole country with the spirit of “Hanoi for the whole country, the whole country for Hanoi” and the support and assistance of international friends” - General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized.
General Secretary and President To Lam stated that the Party and State hope that the capital Hanoi will continue to make greater efforts to become an exemplary and typical example, a source of pride for the people and soldiers of the whole country, as President Ho Chi Minh believed: “The people of our capital have a glorious revolutionary tradition and ardent patriotism. I am sure that the people of the capital will enthusiastically strive to make all sectors of the capital develop more and more, to be an example, to lead the people of the whole country in the work of consolidating peace, achieving unity and complete independence; to build a happy, beautiful, and peaceful life forever for our children and grandchildren”.
Arouse national pride
Speaking at the ceremony, the representative of historical witnesses, Mr. Nguyen Thu - a veteran of Hai Ba Trung district, former officer of Regiment 102 - Capital Regiment, Division 308 - Vanguard Army Division said that the memories of the heroic historical moments of the past are always present, echoing in the mind, especially about the bravery and resilience of the soldiers who fought heroically, not sparing their blood and bones.
Looking back 70 years later, the soldiers of the past are extremely proud and excited about the dramatic changes in the capital and the country.
Mr. Nguyen Thu advised the youth: “To have a beautiful life like today, previous generations have gone through many difficulties and sacrificed their blood and bones to gain independence and freedom. You should always remember the advice of beloved Uncle Ho: "Whether Vietnam's mountains and rivers become beautiful or not, whether the Vietnamese people can step up to the glorious stage to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world powers or not, depends largely on your studies", so that you will know how to appreciate, cherish and strive to study, work, contribute, and be determined to maintain the independence and sovereignty of the Fatherland, to build your homeland and country to be more and more prosperous and happy".
Representing the young generation speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Chi Phuong - an excellent student of Hanoi Law University said that today's ceremony and activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day have left a deep impression in the hearts of the young generation of the Capital; arousing national pride, encouraging and motivating the young generation to promote revolutionary traditions, maintain faith, spirit of independence, self-reliance, sense of responsibility in preserving, actively contributing efforts and intelligence to the cause of building and protecting the beloved Capital and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Nguyen Chi Phuong affirmed that, promoting the tradition of the heroic Capital, the young generation vows to be absolutely loyal to the Party, steadfast in the revolutionary path that the Party, Uncle Ho and our people have chosen; not afraid of difficulties and hardships, ready to go anywhere, do anything when the Fatherland needs.
