On the afternoon of September 10, at the Government Headquarters, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Australia; emphasizing that the bilateral relationship has gone a long way, reaching a stature that few people could have imagined when the two countries established diplomatic relations.
Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn emphasized Australia's desire to be a trustworthy and sincere partner of Vietnam; said that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Australia in March 2024 and upgrading the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is a historic milestone, reflecting strategic trust, depth as well as a common vision for the future of bilateral relations.
The two sides agreed to further strengthen politics through promoting exchanges and contacts at high and all levels, through all channels of the Party, State, National Assembly and people-to-people exchanges; continue to effectively implement the Action Program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2024-2027 period as well as effectively maintain bilateral cooperation mechanisms.
The two leaders agreed to continue to strengthen the pillar of defense and security cooperation to be increasingly trustworthy and strategic, further enhancing economic, trade and investment cooperation, development cooperation, education - training and science - technology; cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchange.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides promote measures towards the goal of two-way trade turnover of 20 billion USD and double two-way investment in the next 2-3 years; expand cooperation and investment in potential areas such as minerals and essential minerals, rare earths, and renewable energy.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also suggested that Australia support Vietnam in building a National Population Database and a National Data Center for Vietnam; support training to improve the capacity of Vietnamese officials and civil servants, continue to encourage universities such as RMIT to expand branches in Vietnam; and suggest that Australia continue to create conditions for the community of more than 300,000 Vietnamese people in Australia.
The Australian Government affirmed Australia's commitment to continuing cooperation to further develop bilateral relations; shared Australia's desire to increase investment opportunities in Vietnam through the Investment Promotion Office established in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; agreed to strengthen cooperation in cyber security; supported Vietnam in the role of host of the United Nations Opening Ceremony on Countering Cybercrime (October 2025).
The entire Australian government said that, as the commander of the Australian Defense Forces, it wished to further deepen the defense relationship between the two countries to contribute to peacekeeping; emphasized that Vietnam is one of Australia's most important partners in maintaining peace and stability in the region; wished to continue cooperation, promote ASEAN's central role, and implement the ASEAN Vision on the Indo-Pacific region; committed to supporting Vietnam in organizing the ASEAN Future Forum as well as promoting cooperation to respond to cross-border challenges, Mekong Subregion cooperation, and combating climate change in Vietnam's Mekong Delta.
