Prime Minister proposes US to remove Vietnam from strategic export control list

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that US lawmakers continue to pay attention to and support the consideration of removing Vietnam from the list of strategic export control (D1-D3).

On the afternoon of May 28, at the Government Headquarters, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received a delegation of bipartisan US House of Representatives to visit and work in Vietnam, led by Representative John Moolenaar, Michigan, member of the US House of Representatives Planning Committee.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister welcomed the first Mesopotamia Military Soldier to visit Vietnam this year, highly appreciating the meaning of the visit in the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam adheres to the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, openness, multilateralization, and diversification of relations and the "four no's" defense policy; emphasized the policy of building an independent, self-reliant economy associated with proactive, active, and extensive, substantial and effective international integration.

In that direction, Vietnam attaches importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the US, sincerely hoping that the relationship between the two countries will maintain a positive, increasingly substantial and in-depth development momentum.

The Prime Minister informed the delegation about important development orientations of Vietnam, affirming that Vietnam identifies the private economy as the most important driving force, science - technology, innovation, digital transformation, green transformation play a strategic breakthrough role in the new development stage of the country.

The Prime Minister expressed his delight and appreciation for the development of bilateral relations in recent times, appreciated the US's support for a "strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous" Vietnam, and welcomed the US's continued efforts to overcome the consequences of war; and suggested that the US increase technology transfer in bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation.

The Prime Minister suggested that Mr. Moolenaar and the US Parliamentarians continue to pay attention to and support the development of relations between the two sides, including considering removing Vietnam from the list of strategic export controls (D1-D3) and promoting the process of reviewing and recognizing Vietnam's Market Economy Regulations.

Regarding the tariff issue, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that during the negotiation process, the US pay attention to the specific conditions and circumstances of Vietnam, have a more balanced approach, towards sustainable, healthy and stable development of trade relations, bringing practical benefits to businesses and people of the two countries.

Member John Moolenaar, head of the delegation and members of the delegation, expressed their impression of the strong development of Vietnam and the Vietnam-US relationship over the past 30 years.

Mr. Moolenenaar and its member MPs affirmed that Vietnam is an important US partner in the region, affirming the promotion of Vietnam -US relations to actively develop the support of the dual party in the US Congress; Thanks to the attention of the Vietnamese leadership for the development of bilateral relations.

Mr. Moolenaar and the delegation's members agreed with the Prime Minister's assessment of the importance of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, reaffirming that the US will continue to play an active role in cooperation, supporting Vietnam in achieving strategic development goals.

Lawmaker Moolenaar and the delegation's members pledged to make efforts to promote bilateral relations and cooperation, including economic - trade relations and tariff negotiations between the two countries.
