On May 7, at the Government Headquarters, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received a delegation from the US National Assembly's US-China Economic and Security Assessment Committee (USCC), led by USCC Chairman Reva Price.
According to the Government Newspaper, the Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed the USCC delegation to visit Vietnam in the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which is also the occasion of Vietnam to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.
The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam adheres to the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, openness, multilateralization, and diversification of relations and the 4-way defense policy; emphasized the policy of building an independent, self-reliant economy associated with proactive, active, and extensive, substantial and effective international integration.
In that direction, Vietnam attaches importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the US, sincerely hoping that the relationship between the two countries will maintain a positive, increasingly substantial and in-depth development momentum.
The Prime Minister expressed his delight at the development of bilateral relations in recent times; welcomed the continued efforts of the US to overcome the consequences of war; proposed that the US soon recognize Vietnam's market economy regulations, remove Vietnam from the list of D1 and D3 strategic export controls, enhance technology transfer in bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation, contributing to promoting balanced and sustainable trade relations.
The Prime Minister highly appreciated the US government and Congress's support for a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam; and suggested that the First Lady and members of the Committee continue to pay attention to and support the development of bilateral relations.
Regarding tariff issues, the Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam is ready to negotiate with the US for the benefit of the people and businesses of the two countries, towards balanced and sustainable trade, and considers this an opportunity to restructure the economy, diversify markets, products and supply chains, continue building an independent economy, autonomy associated with active and active international integration.
Discussing the regional situation, the Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam will consistently resolve the East Sea issue by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, including UNCLOS 1982; information on efforts to seriously implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) as well as promote negotiations on the Code of Conduct (COC) in a practical and effective manner, in accordance with international law.
The Prime Minister suggested that the US continue to support ASEAN's common stance on the East Sea issue, and support efforts to resolve disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with international law.
USCC President Reva Price thanked the Prime Minister for taking the time to receive the delegation, expressing his joy at visiting Vietnam for the first time, impressed by the strong development of Vietnam.
Ms. Price and the delegation members affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner of the US in the region, highly appreciated the achievements of bilateral relations over the past 30 years and expressed optimism about the development of Vietnam - US relations in the coming time.
Ms. Price and the members of the Committee agreed with the Prime Minister's proposals and pledged to continue supporting efforts to promote bilateral relations, including recognizing Vietnam's market economy regulations and customs negotiations between the two countries.
