This morning (November 12), continuing the 8th Session, the National Assembly continued the questioning session with Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung.
The issues that will be questioned by National Assembly deputies to Minister Nguyen Manh Hung include: Solutions to improve the quality of press activities in the current period of social media explosion, especially the role of revolutionary press in promoting socio-economic development.
Management of advertising activities in newspapers and online environments. Investment, development and improvement of telecommunications infrastructure quality, especially in remote areas and ethnic minority areas.
Questioning the minister, delegate Nguyen Duy Thanh (Ca Mau delegation) said that in recent years, the development of social networks has exploded, leading to fake news and false news causing chaos and causing social unrest. This also competes with mainstream media for information and revenue.
Delegate Nguyen Duy Thanh asked, as a state management agency, what plans does the minister have to manage social networks?
Responding to questions, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that this is not only a Vietnamese issue but a global issue that has been discussed and talked about a lot.
Referring to new solutions, the minister said that it is necessary to improve the institutions. Previously, there were only regulations on handling individuals using social networks to spread false information and fake news. The recently issued decree has included handling social platforms when they violate the law.
“Previously, people thought a lot about the responsibility of State management, but in fact, the big responsibility belongs to social platforms. They have their own space, their own subscribers of millions, hundreds of millions, even billions of users, so they are responsible for scanning, detecting, and automatically removing bad and toxic information,” the minister said.
According to the minister, digital space is a new space, so it is necessary to enhance digital skills so that people, especially future generations, can be resilient in digital space.
When people are affected by false and toxic news, there is a place to report and help. The Ministry of Information and Communications said that it has established and put into operation the National Fake News Processing Center. Recently, localities have also begun to form these centers at the local level.
