On August 21, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son chaired the first meeting of the APEC National Committee 2027.
The meeting was attended by representatives of leaders of 18 ministries, branches and agencies that are members of the APEC National Committee 2027. Leaders of An Giang province attended the meeting online.
The meeting aims to review the progress of establishing and perfecting the Subcommittees and Secretariat; determine the work roadmap from now until 2027; review the preparation and implementation of infrastructure projects in provinces and cities hosting the activities of the APEC Year, especially in Phu Quoc - where the APEC 2027 Summit Week will take place.
Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that hosting the APEC Year 2027 is a top important political and foreign affairs task, implementing Directive No. 25-CT/TW dated August 8, 2018 of the Secretariat on promoting and elevating multilateral diplomacy to 2030. This is also an opportunity for Vietnam to promote its role and responsibility, affirming its strategic position in economy and trade in shaping a new international economic order.
With such importance, the Deputy Prime Minister requested that the APEC Year 2027 be successfully organized in all aspects, from content to reception, logistics, propaganda, culture; creating a deep impression of Vietnam and bringing practical benefits to people and businesses, contributing to promoting peace, prosperity and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Secretariat to fully absorb comments at the meeting, complete the overall work plan of the Committee for the 2025-2027 period, as a basis for the Subcommittees to develop the work program.
Emphasizing that the workload that needs to be implemented is very large, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed to urgently complete the establishment and completion of 5 Subcommittees and Secretariats in August 2025; issue regulations on activities, develop a work program for 2025 and the entire 2025-2027 period in early September.
Member ministries and branches of the APEC 2027 National Committee actively participate in APEC 2025 activities in Korea and APEC 2026 in China, both showing support and promoting issues of concern to Vietnam, as a basis for best preparation for APEC 2027.
Emphasizing the formation of thematic and priority ideas for the APEC Year of great significance, the Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Subcommittee on content to promptly develop thematic and prioritize the APEC Year 2027; organize many different forms of consultation with APEC member economies, especially South Korea and China - host of APEC in 2025 and 2026, experts and the domestic and foreign business community.
For An Giang province, the Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the province's determination and proactive spirit in implementing infrastructure construction projects to serve APEC, emphasizing the spirit that infrastructure projects, especially the Conference Center, must be completed 3-6 months in advance.
In addition to facilities, An Giang province needs to arrange land to build APEC Park - a space to display works of art and culture of APEC member economies in accordance with practice, creating a tourism highlight for the locality.
The 2027 APEC National Committee is scheduled to hold a second meeting in early December 2025 to review progress and prepare for activities in 2026.
