The General Secretary and President affirmed that Vietnam is committed to supporting Sri Lanka in agricultural development; promoting people-to-people exchanges, developing tourism, trade and business between the two countries; and agreeing to open direct flights to facilitate people-to-people exchanges.
Vietnam is ready to be a bridge for Sri Lanka to expand ASEAN cooperation, and pledges to support Sri Lanka in multilateral forums, especially at the United Nations.
Ambassador Poshitha Perera affirmed that the relationship between the two countries is developing well, wishing to focus on promoting agricultural cooperation in the coming time; opening a direct flight between Vietnam and Sri Lanka to enhance people-to-people exchange and develop tourism.
Receiving Austrian Ambassador Philippo Agathonnos, General Secretary and President To Lam said that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing the traditional friendship and cooperation with Austria; highly appreciates the cooperation projects between the two countries that have been effectively implemented in recent years, making positive contributions to Vietnam's socio-economic development.
To continue promoting multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, General Secretary and President To Lam asked the Ambassador to closely coordinate and effectively utilize the benefits of the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) during his term; and promote and mobilize the Austrian Parliament to soon complete the procedures for ratifying the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).
Ambassador Philippo Agathonnos stated that after more than half a century of establishing diplomatic relations, the cooperation between the two countries has increasingly developed and deepened in the fields of politics, diplomacy, economy, people-to-people exchange and culture.
The Ambassador highly appreciated the cooperative relationship between the EU and Vietnam, emphasizing that this is a favorable condition to promote multifaceted cooperation between the two countries in the coming time.
On the same day, the General Secretary and President received credentials from 14 concurrent Ambassadors from Costa Rica, Malta, Sudan, Zambia, Mauritius, Uganda, Ghana, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Botswana and Bhutan.
Speaking at the reception, General Secretary and President To Lam believes that by working together, Vietnam and other countries can join hands to build a world of peaceful and sustainable development, a fair international political and economic order, based on the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, and in solving common global issues.
Hoping to continue receiving support and close cooperation from friends and partners around the world, General Secretary and President To Lam hopes that during their term of office, the Ambassadors will fulfill their role as “bridges” of friendship and cooperation, further nurturing and developing relations between Vietnam and the countries they represent; at the same time, he affirmed that Vietnam will create all conditions for the Ambassadors to successfully complete their tasks.
