According to VNA, at 5:05 p.m. on September 21 local time (morning of September 22 Vietnam time), the plane carrying General Secretary, President To Lam and his wife along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived at J.F. Kennedy International Airport, New York City, USA, to begin the program to attend the Future Summit, the High-level General Debate of the 79th United Nations General Assembly and work in the US.
Welcoming the General Secretary, President and his wife along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation at J.F Kennedy International Airport were Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung and his wife; Ambassador, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations Dang Hoang Giang and staff of the Embassy and delegation.
This is the first working trip to the US by the General Secretary and President to attend multilateral foreign affairs activities and work in his new position, and also the first time a Vietnamese General Secretary and President has directly attended high-level meetings at the United Nations General Assembly.
After nearly 50 years, the relationship between Vietnam and the United Nations continues to develop positively, deepening and being constantly consolidated and strengthened.
Vietnam has participated more proactively and actively, and made more substantial and extensive contributions in terms of ideas, human resources, and resources in all areas of the United Nations' pillar activities on peacekeeping, security, and development cooperation.
Vietnam is also trusted and has high expectations from the international community, and has successfully held many important positions at the United Nations.

At the United Nations this time, General Secretary and President To Lam will deliver important messages strongly supporting multilateralism, with the central role of the United Nations in peace, cooperation and development in the world. At the same time, the General Secretary and President will have bilateral meetings and contacts with leaders of international organizations and countries attending the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the working trip, General Secretary and President To Lam will also have important bilateral meetings with US government leaders, attend and speak at events celebrating the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations and one year of upgrading relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as well as meetings and working sessions with the participation of leading US officials, businesses, experts and scholars.
